Why The Traitors NZ’ star Violette Perry loves to feel indifferent

May 31, 2026
Violette Perry was the first-ever woman on Yale University’s men’s water polo team.

We ask the consultant five of our ultimate conversation starters.

Who: Violette Perry

What: Strategy consultant, contestant on The Traitors NZ season three, recruited by six Ivy League universities, first-ever woman on Yale University’s men’s water polo team, Christchurch purist.

Question 73 of 101: What’s one thing you think is underrated?

The great city of Christchurch. I can confirm it is by far the best city in Aotearoa. As a staunch Cantabrian, I will die on this hill. I will not be taking rebuttals at this time.

Question 22 of 101: What is your go-to topic for small talk?

The burning of the Library of Alexandria. Nothing breaks the ice like asking someone how they feel about the irreversible loss of ancient human knowledge.

Question 93 of 101: Do you believe in second chances?

They exist – but I’m big on self-awareness. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, and I become significantly more interested in what that says about my own judgment than in handing out any further chances.

Question 61 of 101: What’s the best thing you’ve ever won?

$20,000 in the New World Little Shop promotion – you know, the one with the tiny groceries. I was around 9-years-old and the only person in New Zealand to win. I have been about that energy ever since.

Question 31 of 101: What is your favourite emotion?

Indifference. There’s a real art to identifying precisely which things deserve your energy and divesting completely from everything else. Most people never figure that out. I consider it one of my finer qualities.

Season three of The Traitors NZ begins tonight on Three and ThreeNow, 7.30pm.

OPINION: To preach the gospel of a lean budget to people skipping meals while sitting on a leather-lined bench that pays you $2.50 for every dollar you save is delusional, writes Andrea Vance.
