A gift for new residents -- and everyone else!

We are delighted to announce the Avatar Welcome Pack, a starter wardrobe that will give any new resident a strong beginning in the often intricate process of creating an avatar.

A number of Second Life creators have generously provided items, some of them crafted exclusively for the pack: Heads from LeLutka, bodies from Legacy, skins from VELOUR and LeLAPEAU.  Clothing, hair and accessories were provided by Addams, ARCBACK, Cold Ash, DOUX, Gabriel, Heol, Mellow Elie, NOMERCY, PARÉ, Phedora, Stealthic, and Wings. Rounding out the pack is a set of animations from OMY.

New residents using this pack will have an easier time because of some simplifications. HUDs are a particular challenge for new users, so none of the body parts or clothing require them. All clothing items come with alpha layers, so new users will not need to manually hide body parts. Third, the heads and bodies look great out of the box with no adjustments needed.

All of the Avatar Welcome Pack items are available to use right now, in a folder located in the Library.  Over time we will be adding Avatar Welcome Pack UIs to the Second Life platforms, which will make it easy for new users to choose among the predefined avatar bodies and looks. In fact, new users assigned to the Project Zero streaming viewer are seeing the first of those UIs as of today. 

Is the Avatar Welcome Pack only for new residents?  No way! Every Second Life resident will find the Avatar Welcome Pack in their inventory, inside the Library. Read the notecard for everything you need to know! Feel free to explore and adopt these items as part of your own look.

How can experienced residents help newcomers wearing these avatars? We know that many new residents receive help with their avatars from experienced SL residents. If you want to help a newcomer wearing one of these avatars, just remember that there are no HUDs. The heads and bodies are special “light” editions, but they are designed to be compatible with any items designed for those heads and bodies. However, any additional clothing will likely need alpha layers to look right on these “light” heads and bodies. As always, try the demo!
