This finding might be related to the role of vitamin D as an epigenetic factor in the production, secretion, modulation, and function of oxytocin (Caldwell et al., 2019) through several proposed mechanisms (Hamza et al., 2017). However, to the best of our knowledge, no research has performed RCT to evaluate the effect of vitamin D supplementation on oxytocin concentration levels in patients with depression.
The concomitant lower concentrations of vitamins B6, B9 and B12 may cause methylation deficiency in autistic children
2019, Journal of Nutritional BiochemistryCitation Excerpt :Obviously, the consistent decrease in the SAM / SAH ratio is related to a lack of vitamin B6. The present study reports significant urinary metabolic differences between healthy children and those with idiopathic ASD, related to reduced concentrations of vitamin B6, folic acid (vitamin B9) and vitamin B12, which can explain the alteration of protein and DNA methylation of autistic children, reported in literature [18,21]. It is interesting to note that dietary vitamin B deficiencies complicate the care of critically autistic children [22].
