Aesthetic and health reasons. The sun is the source of all life and those who are devoid of it are in turn devoid of life. Everyone, no matter the race, looks better tanned rather than pale as it is a health indicator. When you think about it less than 100 years ago the default WAS tan rather than pale because everyone spent their time outdoors most of the time. Nowadays it is unfortunately the opposite.

Better mental well-being, increased sex drive, increase in free testosterone, healthy circadian rhythm and so on. To me a tan looks healthy (healthy=good). It's like asking why does someone with a full head of hair look better to someone that is balding. It just the way it is.

I really do not believe that it is possible to supplement vitamin D since it is exclusively gotten from the sun. Maybe it is possible to supplement other vitamins which are found from foods (although I am very skeptical) but vitamin D? I very much don't think so.
