Device Utility

Monumentally useless. Tried to connect an older Nest Mini. Downloaded this utility, then had to turn off WiFi (seriously?). "Couldn't communicate with your device". Tried again. Same thing. Tried a third time turning off mobile data as well (as another reviewer suggested). Same thing. No other information provided. No fix. This used to be an automatic process. I suspect the device will have to be binned. Great for Google - I'll have to buy a new one. Not so great for the consumer or the planet.

Junk. Not sure why I now have 2 Google home minis that are useless because they've simply stopped connecting to any network whatsoever. One of these has been sitting in storage for a couple of years and the other in active use. They both stopped working at the same time it would seem. Forced obsolescence much? These things aren't even heavy enough to be paperweights. What a waste to buy these and then throw them out 5 years down the road because they want you to buy more. Unnecessary pollution.

Don't bother, it won't work. I installed this to "activate" a first gen Chromecast that worked perfectly well. After an infuriating workflow that requires me to turn off wifi, knowing full well I'll have to turn it on again, all I get is "could not communicate with your Chromecast." No additional troubleshooting, no attempts to explain the problem. I even factory reset the thing, to no avail. So don't waste your time. This app doesn't do anything.
