Melodies in the Forest

85-year-old world-renowned music conductor Petr Novotný is hard at work composing a new opera in his beautiful country home. He has been hiding a secret from his past until one day, while taking his daily walk through the local woods, he is kidnapped. Petr recognizes his captor: it is Yosef, a talented Jewish composer he met in 1942 at the Terezín concentration camp, a ghetto for Czech and Austrian Jews in the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia (German-occupied Czechoslovakia). The camp held notable figures from the worlds of Jewish film, theater, music, as well as intellectuals, authors, writers, and composers, such as Rafael Schächter and Viktor Ullmann. Petr's housekeeper informs his children, Fredrich and Annah, of his disappearance. In her father's study, Annah discovers a memoir containing Petr's secret, one that will change everything.
