I-1: THE DEATH OF PARADIGM is the first level of Indulgence and Act III, Reverend Hailbreaker

The music used in the level is Hidden Waters / Ache Beneath Your Skin in the beginning of the level, Tell Me What The Sky Holds as the main theme of the level, and A Radiant Blur / Overthrown with Anarchy during the train section of the level.

Overview

The level takes place in a dilapidated hydroelectric facility used by the giant superstructure in Indulgence, the Zeus superstructure, to process water into renewable energy. Various machinery can be seen working throughout the level, with areas that take place outside as well, allowing the player to see the forest and the city on the underside of the Zeus. The second part of the level takes place on the IST-662, a train system that has several encounters.

The level is decently linear, with a tad bit of backtracking and branching paths within it. As of current, this is the first level in Project Purgatorio that showcases the Orange Skull Orange Skull keys.

I-1 introduces the Craven Craven and Hermes Hermes as the level's boss.

Areas

FIRST ROOM
An overgrown area filled with rattling pipes and water filled rooms. An Orange Skull Orange Skull key pedestal is needed to deactivate in order to progress. The player will cross a room with a small pit then enter a circular room with a singular tree in the center. Along the walls of this room there are screens which display the message:

! ! WARNING ! !

LOCKDOWN: ACTIVE - MANUAL

CENTRAL POWER CORE: OFFLINE

WATER FILTRATION: OK

FACILITY RUNNING ON BACKUP POWER

After sliding into a server room beyond the previous room shows the Orange Skull Orange Skull key along with another screen that states:

FACILITY STATUS

FLUID CAPACITY: 96.4%

SUPPLY TRANSPORT SYSTEM: INACTIVE

LAST ACTIVITY: 48 YEARS AGO

! ! 1031 UNREAD ALERTS ! !

After taking the skull the power goes out, and the player can progress to the next arena. If the player backtracks to the area with the open pit, a door will be open revealing the first soul orb.

WAVES:

  • 1 Filth Filth (After the power goes out)

CRAVEN ENCOUNTER
A square shaped room comprised of a stairway leading upwards. In the center is a skull pedestal which initiates the boss encounter with the Craven Craven.

WAVES:

After they are defeated, a book falls from the ceiling that reads:

..I know this is reaching you.
I had always considered you noble. All for the greater good of your people. But now I see it. Now I see. You left us at the most vulnerable moment. We're like pests to you, failures.
I was willing to give you the benefit of my doubt. Perhaps there were flaws in my work. Stains on my record. Perhaps even my loyalty was not to your standard.
But now... the curtain is drawn. I see for who you are. I'm so fucking glad you're gone.
This form is sickening. Flawed. Imperfect.
Why would you do this to me..?
I, the one who SILENCED the people at your orders.
I, the one who KILLED innocent men and women in order to keep your sick sense of order and your fucking ego in check.
I, THE ONLY ONE SO LOYAL TO NOT STAND TO YOUR TYRANNY?
I...

...I'm afraid I don't know how to be me without you.
PITIFUL.
NO ONE IS COMING TO SAVE YOU.
GET UP.

The pages of the book are blank.

THE DAM
A long dam with a blocked off red skull key door at the end of it. The forest, black hole, and ZEUS can all be seen from the dam. The left side drops off into a pit while the right side holds some water, along with the second soul orb. After the first wave, a Carcass Carcass bursts through a wall, revealing the way forwards along with activating a green hookpoint.

WAVES:

CATWALKS
Short catwalks leading to the next arena. This area is directly connected to the Craven encounter room below after it's accessible. If the player enters the room before the Carcass Carcass breaks through the wall, the area where it breaks through has an image of THE FATTEST FUCK THE FATTEST FUCK

GEYSER ROOM
A tall room with various walkways. The bottom of the room is flooded and features a Geyser, which every few seconds blasts the player upwards and can kill enemies, giving the unique + HYPERHYDRATION style bonus. Once all waves are completed, a green hookpoint activates.

WAVES:

FOREST VIEW BALCONY
A short walkway that reveals more of Indulgence's forest with water flowing from a wall. While walking, lightning will flash one in the background.

Sliding underneath where the water outflow is coming from leads to a small area with the third soul orb, along with the entrance to I-S: ???

DRAINAGE
A tall room that is surrounded by a moat. Once the two waves are defeated a yellow hookpoint will appear, which opens up some grates and allows the player to ascend upwards.

WAVES:

WAY TO THE HEATSINK
A small hallway with moving metal parts. A barrier similar to those found in Wrath is ahead, although it's red.

WAVES:

HEATSINK
A tall room filled with pipes and moving parts with a red skull sitting in the center. After the first Malicious Face Malicious Face is killed the room will fill with water quickly.

WAVES:

BACK TO THE PEDASTAL
Once the red skull key is taken, the Heatsink room will loose power. A grate at the bottom of the drainage is now open, which drops the player off where the Carcass Carcass broke out of the wall. The player can proceed from here to the red skull pedestal to move forwards

WATER STORAGE A long room with several water tanks. A spinning machine lies in the center of the room. To the back left of the room is a small opening which leads to a blood orb

WAVES:

BEFORE THE TRAIN
A plus sign shaped room. The center has a large broken pipe which a??????. There are screens in this area which display the message:

--STATUS--

SUBSURFACE LIQUID SIPHONING: ONLINE

LIQUID FILTRATION: ONLINE

COMMUNICATIONS ARRAY: OFFLINE

WAVES:

TO THE TRAIN
After the previous arena and walking down a hallway the player has their gravity flipped in a room. Screens display the message:

GRAVITY REORIENTATION

- HOLD ONTO HANDLEBARS FOR SAFETY -

- STRAP DOWN ANY CARGO -

- WEAR SAFETY EQUIPMENT -

After the shift, three enemies spawn, only to all be killed by {[hl|Hermes}}. The enemies killed by Hermes get unique style bonuses, those being + SLICED, + DICED, and + THRICED. Going forwards the player can jump down a shaft into the next area.

If the player goes right, they find a secret plushie of Unfortunate Development Unfortunate Development.

WAVES:

THE IST-662, FIRST CHECKPOINT
The player drops onto a train speeding down a railway. More trains join as more and more waves come, up to three trains. The first and second trains are identical, but the third train has an elevated section a Sentry Sentry sits on top of.

For the second wave, all of the enemies get killed by a passing sign, giving the unique style bonus + LONG HAUL.

WAVES:

THE IST-662, SECOND CHECKPOINT
More enemies keep popping up.

Like the previous encounter, the first wave gets killed by some more passing signs.

WAVES:

THE IST-662, THIRD CHECKPOINT
Final section on the train. The Cerberus Cerberus that came with the third train wakes up during this encounter.

WAVES:

INTERMISSION The two side trains stop, and the main train comes to a stop at a loading dock, demanding an Orange Skull Orange Skull. When getting the skull, Hermes Hermes can be seen running across a vent.

To the left of the skull is a small vent which, when destroyed and climbed into, leads to the final soul orb.

After the skull is placed on the train Hermes Hermes jumps out of a glass pane and starts their boss battle.

HERMES BOSS FIGHT
Hermes Hermes stands at the front of the trains and unsheathes their weapons starting their fight. More trains join up to make the platform the fight takes place on.

Once defeated, Hermes Hermes jumps into a passing sign and dies.

FINAL AREA
The final train stops at a loading bay with a single Schism Schism. Killing it will open a grate and allow the player to continue onto I-2: If There Were No Thunder.

WAVES:

Challenge

Unlike the basegame versions of this challenge, nothing specifically needs to be done to prevent water from touching the player, if they wish. However, to make it easier the player can destroy three valves hidden across the level to completely drain all of the water.

The first valve is found right after the player exits the first vent after the power goes out. Behind some boxes is another vent which the player can slide into to destroy a valve. The second valve is found at the top of the Geyser Room behind a breakable glass pane. The third and last valve is found in the Drainage, behind another glass pane above the Cerberus Cerberus encounter.
