Here's a weird one. I just set up a new PS4, and I've set everything up, as far as I know, correctly. My account is sorted, the games I want installed are installed, but there are no icons for game save files, or the icon for updates, and avatars aren't appearing, either. Not even mine, and I've changed it a few times now to try and get it to appear.

Anyone have any idea what could be wrong?

Restore factory settings and set-up again. That's extremely weird, something probably went haywire during installation.

Or try a hard reset first, hold down the power button for 10~ seconds. If that doesn't solve it, factory reset.

Avatars not showing up make me think it's a bad/slow internet connection speed.
Icons not showing up could be theme related if you happen to have a special theme.
Have you tried the simple restart yet?

I'll do that. I have restarted the machine, several times, but that sadly hasn't helped. A reset might be the solution.

Definitely not a connection issue. Because my other PS4 displays everything just fine.

Ok. So I've turned it off, back on. Nothing. I've checked my connection, and I have put my details back into the machine. Nothing.

I have now reset the entire machine, left it going for a couple of hours and it just finished - it hasn't fixed it.

No avatar for me, none for my friends. No icons for saved data, no icons for updates or any other updates or any notifications.

Very strange. My other PS4 is fine. I set it back up, and everything is as it should be, but this one won't show icons. If I do click my profile, it loads for a moment, where the avatar should be flashes, but then stays as a blank little man.

I'd take that PS4 back wherever you bought it or call Sony.

I might have to contact Sony. I can't take it back to the store now, I've had it stored away since November. I popped it out mostly to do a test, because some folks are adamant their copies of Uncharted 4 don't suffer from a single framerate drop. And yet, I've had moments of stutter, I've had moments where the framerate has dipped in extremely isolated areas, but it has still happened.

And thorough tests have concluded, across two different machines, two different discs, the same drops happen in the same places.

Then, I thought, I actually like the look of the Darth Vader PS4, thought I'd use it for the larger storage, but no. No icons or avatars. Which is a shame because I love my little yellow ducky.
