Thought I would modify my map from last night with the actual results - and a few little changes. Colour of constituency indicated largest vote share (Plaid 11 - Reform 5)

that was one of my motivations for making it - so many of the prediction maps were ugly and then when I saw the result maps I just had to make something 😭

rip labour and tories
we've not seen a collapse like this since the liberal party went under. Wales has been firmly labour for 100 years, and watching it completely implode has been .. unusual, to say the least
I mean it isn't just firmly. Labour was a religion here. People didn't even count the election as an election in large parts of Wales. Selecting your local candidate at your CLP was considered the real election* for half the seats in Wales for nearly a century. Basically those seats operating as an effective one party democracy.
All of that has gone. It was on the wane anyway but Labour have done a speed run in these last 4 years.
*this was actually why the entire CLP rallied behind an independent in 2005 after Labour tried to parachute an external candidate into Blaenau Gwent.
I just hope they go away and reflect honestly and deeply about what got them here. Otherwise they're truly screwed at a party.
Not even then to be honest, at least as far as Wales is concerned - the Liberals lost half their seats in Wales in 1922 but then bounced around at about the same level until after WW2. And in the 1950s when the Liberals were at their all time low, Wales was the heart of where the party clung on. But the party then continued to decline there even after the revival started up elsewhere, especially when Plaid Cymru appeared in the picture and turned several of the places where the Liberals had clung on to relevance into their own heartlands. But this was over half a century after that 1922 result.
Well it’s been a long road from red labour to labour to new labour to Tory-lite that it is today.
They're both disgraces towards their ideological standpoints, it's good they're being put in their place.
Why is Wrexham coloured for reform btw when it's 2 seats each. I work in Wrexham but live in Chester so haven't followed anything
constituency colour is by vote share. reform got about 7000 more votes than plaid in that constituency

Idk I think the home rule supporting Lloyd George would've been pretty happy with Plaid winning.
That is a lot more Reform than I was hoping for, least they didn’t win, and Plaid’s alright. I’m guessing a Plaid/Labour coalition for a majority.
I'm not sure if there'll be a coalition or if it'll just be a cooperation agreement like what plaid and labour were under before the election
Well it’s a different situation, Labour had half the seats in the 2021 election, technically kind of a majority, but now Plaid only has 43/96, not a majority.
The concept that a party whose leader has called Welsh a foreign language could do so well is absolutely bizarre. But I guess it's due to ill will towards labour and conservative and it being the other right wing party
Parts of Wales have been English speaking for centuries. Not entirely coincidentally those are the parts most reluctant to switch to Plaid to keep Reform out.

Be a Plaid minority administration based on confidence and supply with Labour
It is odd as Reform did worse on the head to head poll than people were expecting. However they won more seats because Labour collapsed even harder than expected.
There's a lot of seats where Reform threaded the needle to take the 6th seat where a couple of hundred votes either way would have handed Labour or PC the seat. The results aren't unfair as such but in a ranked ballot election they would have done worse.
Still what amounts to an English nationalist party should not be doing this well in Wales.
I'm a strong advocate for Single Transferrable Vote for this reason. So many votes under D'Hondt essentially still end up in the bin because either your party didn't meet the virtual threshold, or surpassed it by so much that thousands of votes were unnecessary. Plaid's manifesto includes a commitment to pursue STV, so I'm hoping we can get a cross-party consensus on it. Party list D'Hondt clearly has its limitations, especially in our highly fragmented political environment.

Surprised to see reform win three seats in Sir Gar. Wonder if that’s largely driven by Llanelli rather than the more traditional Plaid areas in the north & west of the county.
And that Brecon, Randor & Neath constituency will never not look weird!

I think it could be worth, per constituency, showing not who got the most per party but instead showing who got the most on the left vs the right.
So Ref + Tories vs Plaid + Werdd + Llaf + LD

can someone give a quick rundown of the parties and a little contextualization? I know reform is the fascists, but who are the plaid cymru and what's their whole deal? why was wales a labor stronghold for a century and why has that completely collapsed this election?
Reform aren't fascists at all. You don't know anything if you get you're political knowledge from other countries only off reddit
Well to start with reform aren't facists, but to answer your questions Plaid are the Welsh nationalist party. They are fairly left wing and are benefiting from the fall of Labour. Labour has run Wales for the last 20+ years but with increasingly poor outcomes recently (especially in healthcare). Coupled with the huge unpopularity of Kier Starmer's Labour government in Westminster most Welsh voters wanted a change.

Senedd Cymru is the name of the parliament - that's the official English name for it. I'm not giving it a name it doesn't use itself, and if people need context they can Google it for more information than I'd be able to fit on that
Etholiad Senedd means Meeting of Parliament. Cymru is Welsh for Wales
