A random little idea I had:

Big scary living weapon whumpee following around their little old lady caretaker ready to defend her with his life on her trips to the grocery store after she saw him sitting in the rain and brought him in for tea.

He’s at least two feet taller than her and built like a tank, meant to fight and destroy and kill but she just politely asks if he’ll carry the big bag of cat food to the car as she’s “not as young as she once was”. He carries the cat food and doesn’t feel sick to his stomach following orders any more.

She retired years ago but still keeps up her errands, writing letters and playing cards with her other lady friends, all of whom coo and fawn over him (after their initial concern) and he becomes the recipient of many a homemade craft. His closet overflows with grandma sweaters and his bed is layered with quilts, and it’s the first time he’s been surrounded by such softness and warmth. And they never have to worry about having some big strong man to help get their Christmas decorations out of the attic.

He calls her Miss and ma’am, as if he was afraid of her name, while she calls him honey like it was his name. He likes it better. There were no bad memories tied to “honey”, only those of tea and cookies in her mismatched kitchen chairs and walks down to the park when the weather was nice.

They look an odd pair everywhere they go, but she simply tells anyone that asks that he’s her son, and slowly it starts to feel like it. She mentions that she’d always wanted a son (or daughter, she wasn’t fussed really), and doesn’t the universe have such a funny way of making things happen? He swallows hard and doesn’t mention that he’s always wanted a mother too.

Summary:
Webbigail Vanderquack and Della Duck both have relationship problems of a similar nature, each involving different people, obviously, but still similar nonetheless. But do either of them do the rational thing, and immediately discuss it with those most directly involved? No, they procrastinate, and talk to anyone but them. And as if trying to serve their initial dim-wittedness with a side order of idiocy, they both couch the problems in such a round-a-bout way (asking for a friend/increasingly vague metaphors, you get the picture) that any advice given would be next to meaningless.

In the 1700s, blood transfusion was used to treat psychosis. Oddly, sometimes it worked.

So a question for my followers: Give your best guess as to why this could have worked without looking it up.

I will answer tomorrow.

macgyvermedical

Answer: A particularly common form of psychosis occurred in the final stage of infection with syphilis. Syphilis is an uncommon bacteria in that is is extremely sensitive to temperature- so sensitive that a high fever greatly reduced or even eliminated infection with the bacteria. In fact, once quinine became available to treat malaria, which caused repeated high fevers, intentional infection with malaria was used to cure syphilis, which would then be treated with quinine. But in the 1700s, they (Europeans, at least) didn't have quinine yet.

So how did a blood transfusion treat syphilis? Well, in the 1700s, blood transfusions were not done with human blood- they were done with animal blood, usually lamb or calf blood. Since biblically calf or lamb blood was pure and contributed to the sweet nature of the animals, it was thought that if given to someone who was experiencing paranoia and hallucinations, the psychotic symptoms would decrease. This was not the case.

The amounts were usually small enough that the person didn't die. But it did cause frequent transfusion reactions. These reactions frequently caused high fevers, which treated the syphilis and helped decrease the symptoms caused by it.

I’ve got a tiny black hole in a jar. Cute and incomprehensible isn’t it? Don’t open the lid. The last guy who did that got turbo radiation poisoning.

what-even-is-thiss

No it’s not a pet but it does eat light. Which is pretty easy to acquire all things considered. Just shine a lamp on it.

Again, do not open the jar.

what-even-is-thiss

What does it weigh? Only about ten pounds. It’s like carrying around a cat. In fact, a cat may have turned inside out on itself to make it. Or maybe it was a small dog or a raccoon, I’m not sure.

In any case, seriously, do not open the jar.

medlabmech

*opens the jar*

what-even-is-thiss

*you immediately fall over due to going through all stages of every type of cancer in 2 seconds*

*closes the jar*

They never listen.

sassyphantomkoala

Wait, how come you don't have cancer?

what-even-is-thiss

I don’t open the jar.

what-even-is-thiss

To those of you saying that the black hole would blow up in less than a nanosecond, clearly not. Because it’s still in the jar.

alnaperera

It would not blow up because the event horizon of a black hole that weighs as much as a cat would be miniscule. No idea how you suspended it in the jar though.

what-even-is-thiss

I didn’t say it was suspended in the jar. It still has mass. It’s on the bottom of the jar.
