Two twelve-year-olds have been arrested in connection to the shooting of a 15-year-old boy who was found dead Sunday, Winston-Salem police said.Police released no further information about the two because they are juveniles. WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. —

Two twelve-year-olds have been arrested in connection to the shooting of a 15-year-old boy who was found dead Sunday, Winston-Salem police said.

Police released no further information about the two because they are juveniles. However, police said Sunday that Mendoza knew the shooter and they were looking for two Hispanic males between the ages of 12 and 16.

Jose Angel Chegue Mendoza was found with gunshot wounds in an open area behind a church near 432 Crews St. He was taken to Baptist Medical Center, where he died.

No other suspects are being sought.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call police at 336-773-7700 or CrimeStoppers at 336-727-2800 (en Español: 336-728-3904).

The shooting was the 16th homicide in Winston-Salem this year, compared to eight during the same time frame in 2015, police said.

Collins suffered multiple fractures, 3rd degree burns, and internal. Bleeding injuries that required several surgeries. She really, truly has made *** tremendous recovery given everything that she's gone through, you know, the amount of time that she's had to be in the intensive care unit because of the spell of her injuries. She has worked so hard and she really truly is *** miracle. Faulkner and Fire Commissioner Chuck Sims recently visited Collins in the hospital. Her road to recovery is far from over. But her family is grateful she's alive. They credit surgeons and medical staff at DMC Detroit Receiving Burn Center and Faulkner for saving her life. Thank you to the Detroit firefighters. Investigators served a search warrant at a California home on Wednesday in connection with the 1996 murder of college student Kristin Smart, the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office confirmed.The sheriff’s office said a judge signed off on the search warrant for the property in Arroyo Grande, California.KSBY reported that the property belongs to Susan Flores, the mother of Paul Flores, who was convicted of killing Smart when they were both students at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Smart, a Stockton, California native, disappeared over Memorial Day Weekend in 1996, and her remains were never found. Prosecutors argued that Paul Flores killed Smart during an attempted rape in his dorm room. He was the last person seen with her as he walked her home from an off-campus party. In March 2023, Paul Flores was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison. He has maintained his innocence. Flores' father, Ruben, was found not guilty of being an accessory after the fact for allegedly helping to conceal the crime.Prosecutors argued that Smart's remains were buried on Ruben Flores' property and later moved. “The Sheriff’s Office remains committed to bringing Kristin home to her family,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement to sister station KCRA.The Associated Press contributed to this story.

Investigators served a search warrant at a California home on Wednesday in connection with the 1996 murder of college student Kristin Smart, the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office confirmed.

The sheriff’s office said a judge signed off on the search warrant for the property in Arroyo Grande, California.

KSBY reported that the property belongs to Susan Flores, the mother of Paul Flores, who was convicted of killing Smart when they were both students at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.

Smart, a Stockton, California native, disappeared over Memorial Day Weekend in 1996, and her remains were never found.

Prosecutors argued that Paul Flores killed Smart during an attempted rape in his dorm room. He was the last person seen with her as he walked her home from an off-campus party.

In March 2023, Paul Flores was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison. He has maintained his innocence.

Flores' father, Ruben, was found not guilty of being an accessory after the fact for allegedly helping to conceal the crime.

Prosecutors argued that Smart's remains were buried on Ruben Flores' property and later moved.

“The Sheriff’s Office remains committed to bringing Kristin home to her family,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement to sister station KCRA.
