It’s been a good 6 years since I started The Closer Look, but I never imagined I’d get this far.
In all honesty, I ran a gaming channel for 4 years trying to ‘make it big’, but it never worked, and in the end I only got 7k subs there so I quit. I decided to start The Closer Look purely as a hobby, having fully given up on my dream of being a YouTuber full-time.
Then I uploaded my first TCL video on The Joker... and it’s currently at 2.4 million views. I was used to getting maybe 200 views on my old crappy gaming vids if I was lucky. The numbers are so high now I can’t even process them.
It’s been a hell of a ride, and I’m going to be uploading much more consistently going forward... starting with 2 videos coming out next week! One is a rather fun one defending pure evil villains, and breaking down why sometimes evil villains are much better than sympathetic ones.
The other is a true mammoth of a video essay on Star Wars I’ve been working on for over a year now. It’s nearly 2 hours long, and is a full breakdown of why the franchise is in such a sorry state, but more importantly, how it can be revived and made great once again.
