Chapter Text
In the beginning, there was nothing.
No darkness, no light,
Just…Them, the Being.
The Being existed before time, before death, Their essence the only substance in a vacant sea.
But the Being grew inquisitive, They began to wonder, to learn, to grow.
A shape formed from the essence, massive and bright in the empty shroud of space.
They became He.
He continued forward, adjusting to his new body, observing the vastness with his new eyes.
He was alone.
He felt lonely.
…He felt.
The Being stilled, scrutinizing this new entity, this…feeling…within him.
He didn’t like it.
He didn’t…like?
More and more formidable feelings overtook Him, He raced through the nothingness, trying to escape His confusion.
He didn’t like being alone, He hated it, He was afraid of it.
His breath hastened, His scanned for any difference, any change, in the desolate horizon.
He couldn’t be the only one, the only—someone—in this eternal emptiness.
Even more panicked, He spread His…wings? And flew, but there was no one, there was nothing.
Nothing.
He landed back down on his paws, His feathered tail swishing wildly.
He was alone.
In anguish, the Being roared.
The Being roared and roared until His voice grew hoarse.
If He is the sole existence in this awful emptiness…
…then it would be better to not exist at all.
He laid down.
And waited.
He felt Himself become formless once more, felt Himself become part of the nothing,
Yet, He remained…Himself.
He remained.
He remained; He could not cease.
The Being snapped back into his form.
…He couldn’t cease. He couldn’t stop existing.
He felt anger course through Him.
He can’t even control His own existence?!
The Being stalked back and forth, enraged.
Why did He even gain form?!
Why was He the only something in this nothing?!
Why?! Why?! WHY?!
He gnashed His teeth, tears streaming down his muzzle.
He was the only something in the nothing.
The only something…
Wait…
His eyes snapped open.
What if…His essence…
The Being became shapeless once more, and carefully, detached a small piece of His spirit.
He would use a piece of Himself to make another, someone to talk to, someone to share with, to teach and love…
A cub, a child.
He slowly reshaped Himself and gazed at the tiny creature in His paws.
The little one blinked open its eyes and stared up at Him.
The Being smiled.
Michael.
