literally no reason to disrupt the purchase of assets when the judgment creditors are in full agreement. if the judge does anything but rubber stamp this deal, it’s because fascists get to play by different rules than the rest of us
They blocked it the first time. My understanding is that the deal wasn't good enough for the victims, but take that last part with a grain of salt.
No, it was because the deal was made without, Alex's fascist buddies from having a chance to bid higher. While this may technically get more money for the victims, on the other hand forcing a larger deal on the onion also wipes out more of the remaining debt alex owes to the families.
I'm not sure how this works but I kinda assume there's no *requirement* for there to be an auction. It sounds more like a tendering process, where everyone gets one bid and that's it.
I think it's because they originally stated they would do multiple rounds and then decided to go with the onion deal after the first round that enabled Alex to appeal the first time
tbh it's fair enough: the damages related directly to Jones' use of his platform, so letting him buy it back through a shell company wouldn't really be in the spirit of the ruling. The bigger question for me was why they allowed him to bid at all.
