rewatching K-on in a post bocchi the rock universe is kind of miserable. i’ve seen a version of this show with way better character conflict and characters that didn’t feel like weirdly idyllic and romanticized youth
both are shows about failgirls joining a high school rock band, bocchi is just the far more interesting take on it. bocchi *wants* to be a famous rock star right from minute 1, her attempts to join and her motivation to stay in the band are self-motivated by a desperate need for human connection and a desire to have her skills recognized. all the girls save for kita are social outcasts to some extent, which helps connect bocchi to the rest of the cast.
yui K-on joins the rock band cause her friend pressures her into joining a club. she’s made to stay in the band in part by the guilt of letting the others down. 3 episodes in and it barely feels like yui has done anything but fail upwards. i don’t know why yui is in the band. the girls are all these like, idyllicly feminine polite girls, idk what the appeal of this show is anymore

I log back into this app and see the conversations around the white woman, Renee Good, who was just recently killed. And I can’t help but notice the stark difference in circulation of news and boosting of stories between both of them across this app…
Shit has BEEN happening to Black people across administrations and is currently happening to Black people under this administration, and is met by crickets. Yet when it starts touching white people, I see real anger start being felt from the gen pop followed by amplification and co-opting of Black terms and memorialization… I stg it takes everything in me to give af about yall.
