Korea Masters: Okimoto Surges into Final

World No.62 Yudai Okimoto made his first HSBC BWF World Tour Super 300 final when he surprised second seed Victor Lai in straight games at IKSAN VICTOR Korea Masters 2025.

The Japanese, who was promoted from the qualifying draw, has been in three previous finals this year, winning the Northern Marianas Open (International Series), and finishing runner-up at the Saipan International (International Challenge) and ALLIANZ Malaysia Super 100. He beat fifth seed Justin Hoh in the first round and fifth seed Jeon Hyeok Jin in the quarterfinals before upsetting World Championships bronze medallist Lai in the semifinals.

Standing in the way of his first Super 300 title will be top seed Jason Teh (Singapore), who overcame Japan’s Shogo Ogawa 21-12 21-18.

In women’s singles, top seed Chiu Pin-Chian (Chinese Taipei) made her first final in 19 months after a hard-fought 19-21 21-19 21-8 result over Indonesia’s Dhinda Amartya Pratiwi. Chiu, whose last final was the Ruichang China Masters (Super 100) in March 2024, has a shot at her first Super 300 title when she takes on second seed Nguyen Thuy Linh.

The Vietnamese has a chance of winning her first title this year after being in three finals in Canada, Germany and Vietnam.
