ReviewMariinsky Theatre’s Tosca in Macau was one of the best you will ever see
Performed at the 2024 Macao International Music Festival, the Mariinsky Theatre’s production of Puccini’s opera Tosca was simply immaculate
The 36th Macao International Music Festival celebrated the centenary of the death of Giacomo Puccini in style with a magnificent production of Tosca by St Petersburg’s Mariinsky Theatre, conducted by Valery Gergiev.
Musically and dramatically, it was a triumph from start to finish and drew a tremendous response from the audience.
The immaculate ensemble cast was superb down to the smallest role. It was led by a trio of outstanding artists: Tatiana Serjan in the title role, Najmiddin Mavlyanov as Cavaradossi and Vladislav Sulimsky as Scarpia.

Xia Baolong’s successive trips underscore greater urgency from Beijing for Hong Kong’s integration, analysts say
Beijing’s top official overseeing Hong Kong affairs has concluded his second visit to the Greater Bay Area in three weeks, a trip that analysts view as a push from the central government to speed up the city’s integration with national development.
Xia Baolong, director of the State Council’s Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office, was in Guangdong province earlier this week, visiting Shenzhen, Dongguan and Huizhou.
State-run media said his four-day “research tour” focused on supporting Hong Kong and Macau “in proactively aligning with the national 15th five-year plan, deepening their participation in the development of the Greater Bay Area, and better integrating into and serving the country’s overall development strategy”.
