Everything I know about Tyler Catastrophe

Okay, so here’s basically a compilation of things I’ve learned about Tyler from his TikTok and from looking him up on Facebook—nothing deeper than that.

He was born as Emily Satlow, to Amanda Rae [Lastname]. Now he goes by Tyler Austen Solona. His mother has a different last name than both Satlow and Solona, her different last name comes from a new marriage. I’m not sure whether “Solona” might be his mother’s maiden name, an actual family name, or just some kind of stage name. I say this because his parents are divorced and apparently not on speaking terms—to the point that Tyler’s older brother has cut off contact with their mom and that side of the family for years—so it would make sense if Tyler dropped “Satlow” to distance himself from his father.

As for his transgender identity, from what I can tell he’s been identifying as a trans man since his teenage years—maybe around 14–16—but it looks like he might have stayed in the closet until around 18. Around that time, he started publicly posting about being trans and about trans rights, though it seems like he began socially transitioning a bit later, maybe around 19 or 20. If that’s the case, it would line up with the pandemic. He was also deeply involved in Tumblr culture and “bandom” (that big umbrella fandom with emo bands like MCR, FOB, P!ATD, Paramore, etc., overlapping with Superwholock and peak text-post Tumblr culture).

He’s no longer on testosterone—there’s a TikTok where he mentions being off it—but I’m not sure how long he was on it. Judging by his posts, I’d guess he started somewhere between 2019–2021 and was on it for less than five years. I don’t know why he stopped; he doesn’t go into much depth about his gender identity in his videos.

At some point, he claimed to be two-spirit, which is technically an Indigenous identity. So maybe there was a period where he thought he had Indigenous heritage, or claimed he had it, or maybe he didn’t realize it’s a culturally specific identity. It’s unclear, especially since he doesn’t identify as nonbinary, so it’s hard to see why he aligned himself with that term. (In his latest tiktok about beadwork and indigenous influence he says he doesn’t identify as indigenous and respects the culture, and even has indigenous friends)

It’s also unclear why he stopped medically transitioning. He doesn’t seem to express gender dysphoria in an obvious way—at least based on what he posts. He shows his body fairly openly, doesn’t use a binder, doesn’t complain about his chest, and doesn’t post about wanting top surgery. As far as I know, he doesn’t have a GoFundMe for top surgery either (someone would have to check beyond the one for going to England). Also he never changed his name and gender legally on his paperwork, said by him earlier this year.

He claims to be disabled after a car accident where a “Lexus totaled his body,” which a lot of people have pointed out can’t be literally accurate, because that would’ve killed him. He says it left him with chronic pain, and that during his recovery the only part of his body he could move were his hands (which is why he started doing beadwork). He also says that even now he can’t bend at the waist without feeling a stabbing pain.

Some people in this Reddit thread pointed out that, since he’s young (26), he likely made a full recovery and might be holding onto the narrative for sympathy—which, honestly, I kind of agree with. My guess is that he had something like broken ribs, and maybe doctors warned him about the risks (like a rib puncturing a lung), and he interpreted that as meaning he was in a life-or-death situation.

I do believe the accident happened—people mentioned looking for articles or newspaper clips—and it would explain the scar on his forehead that you can see in his TikToks. I just don’t think he’s chronically ill. If he does experience pain when moving, it might be more related to being overweight and sedentary.

What surprises me is that he doesn’t claim any neurodivergent identity. He doesn’t really larps as autistic or ADHD—or at least not consistently enough for me to have noticed. Maybe he’s mentioned it once or twice, but it’s not one of his main things. I find that a bit surprising, since his whole persona kind of overlaps with the kind of online spaces where people adopt those labels. To me, it seems more like he has some underlying psychological pattern going on—at the very least, a strong victim complex that makes everything feel amplified, and also feeds into the idea that having gone through “bad” things makes him special, deserving, or somehow set apart.

Now, the England trip—which he insists has nothing to do with Wilbur Soot—is supposedly backed by a job offer he got to work with a “prestigious artist.” He made a video claiming he was going to work with Stuart Semple (from Blackest Black and Culture Hustle). If I mess up names or details, it’s because I don’t really know these people and haven’t looked into them deeply.

He says he was supposed to work with him as part of Culture Hustle, and even claims he almost ended up homeless because of the situation (the claim was around December 2024 and the job offer around mid-2023). According to Tyler, his career at the time was going really well—he saw himself as a local celebrity, with lots of opportunities coming in—but his dreams were “bigger than Texas.” https://vt.tiktok.com/ZSHE5UqM9/

So he visits England, goes to the Culture Hustle space, and falls in love with it (I think it’s in Dorset, which is like a couple of hours from Brighton, so I’m not sure how that fits logistically). Basically, he asks Stuart if he can work for him, and Stuart says something along the lines of “we can figure something out.” Tyler takes that as a green light—like, yes, go sell all your furniture in the U.S. and start looking for flats in England.

He keeps pushing it, even reaching out to Stuart’s assistant, who eventually tells him directly that it’s not happening.

Around the same time, his mother makes a Facebook post saying Tyler has a work opportunity in England and needs money to make it happen, linking people to his online store. She seems fully supportive of him as a person and as an artist, and I’d guess she’s not really aware of how much of Tyler’s decisions revolve around this Wilbur Soot fixation and his delusions of grandeur.

So my poor attempt at a timeline:

Parent’s divorce at around 15/16 years old in 2016
Coming out as trans at 18
Starts on T at 19/20
Accident also at 20/21??? Since he says he’s trying to get his voice back for 5 years and I’ve seen some post from 2021 and he wasn’t in a hospital bed so maybe the accident was late 2020-early 2021
Job offer to England, first mention of moving to England 2023

Idk lol!

Just to say, he was a nice guy. He visited my studio while travelling in England and obviously became infatuated with the UK. He spent about half an hour with me, and a few weeks after he got home he asked me for a job. I said that if he made it to England and sorted a visa, we could talk about it. That said, there was never a job offer, and I wasn’t sure what he could contribute. We weren’t advertising any jobs at that time. I get that he loved our studio and wanted to be part of it. I never expected him to take that as a green light to sell all his stuff and go on a crowdfunding rampage. That said, I hope that if he wants to be in England, he makes it over and carries on making his art.

Hello Stuart Semple. Lmao, if this is really you, I have no idea. Don't worry about the fallout; absolutely nobody thinks you offered him a real job—not people here, not people on TikTok. Nobody is going to think you are some kind of scammer that pulled the rug out from under a young guy because you're evil. So tell your PR guy to not worry and to just wait for this to pass. It's not like a big scandal anyway; it's a very small corner of the internet.

it’s him he posted proof on his first post

He'll be begging Anish Kapoor for a job next just to spite you 🤣

I saw earlier videos where he said he'd been personally invited to the studio and another where he said he almost facilitated a collaboration between your studio and another company, I'm guessing this is not actually the case, eh?

Stuart said on TikTok that Tyler offered to put him in contact with an artist at Meow Wolf, which is the “collaboration” that Tyler is referencing; however, this introduction was essentially meaningless as Stuart and the artist in question already knew each other

Accident was 2019. I’ve been trying to verify if it was as severe as made out (the voice thing doesn’t check out at all, I even asked two vocal coach friends).

Comment Image

yeah my friend went into a dive and it was on october 24th 2019 and tyler usually posts on the anniversary, haven't really found anything about the specifics of the injuries

Vocal coach friends said it could limit breath capacity but that unless he’s trying to sing opera or anything like that it’d be easy to work around with training. And it wouldn’t affect pitch whatsoever. Changes to pitch control would only happen if there was significant damage to his larynx/vocal cords or, more likely, testosterone voice drops without retraining muscle memory.

He posted this like a couple weeks after and most posts he made relatively close to that date he was not banged up.. being hit at 50mph there would’ve been visible injuries. He had none.

Presumably end of October judging by this post and tagged photos earlier in October

Oh, okay interesting. I don't get what the point of releasing his full name and mother's name is?

It's a snark subreddit, usually snark forums and threads don't have the same respectufl etiquette other forums or twitter posts have. I personally don't really care much about posting stuff that's already online, this is all from his facebook and his tiktok page

He is 100% lying about being hit by a car. For someone as obsessed with himself as he is, he claims it happened 10/24/19 and there’s literally no photos of him he posted in the hospital. You know damn well he would’ve milked that whole thing.

worth adding i have a friend who was hit by a car and totaled it at 14. it took her months to get out of the hospital and now, 9 years later, is working and does not seem outwardly disabled (although she has lasting effects which would only be known if you knew her personally, besides a noticeable slight limp)

so its completely plausible he really took out a car and lived

Did some digging on Tyler’s dad and found an indigenous piece. Even more curious about the two spirit thing now

Maybe it's because they're from Oklahoma and they see a lot of Native American culture around, and he liked the design? His dad isn't the wokest person ever, or maybe the dad thinks he has indigenous ancestry, and that's why Tyler sometimes acts like he has it? Then the next day he says he doesn't, but he always words it weirdly

also i’m from north tx and he is not a local celebrity in the art scene

I wouldn't be surprised if the Solana name is just to be able to get assumed Mexican ancestry, especially in the area he lives in. There are people with Mexican ancestry like Alex Verdugo or Danny Gonzalez who look totally white.

I looked up the name Solona and there isn’t any real people named that, Solana tho yeah a bunch, but Solona was used a few times as a last name in 1920 and nothing else I do wonder were he got it from and if it has a meaning or if he misread solana at some beach/tanning salon/something related to sun and holidays lol

as someone who’s hometown is where he lives rn, it’s not that bad to live there as a lgbtq person. i went high school there as a queer woc and i just got the usual occasional microaggressions. he reminds me of the white queer ppl i used to be friends with back then that would turn things into the oppressed olympics, so irritating

He is so.. fascinating. I am genuinely in awe

right? if i had his confidence and ego i could accomplish anything! hes such an interesting person

Of course his dead name is Emily lmao

He has also said in some video that he stopped being medicated, that he had been medicated at that point for 11 years

Is this like the full total lore? Not totally up to date personally

I left some stuff out because when I posted Reddit took it down so I thought it was deleted, I had no idea it went through. I guess I could add that the car accident was on octuber 2019, that his father is bipolar and cheated on his mom, and that Tyler dances around the indigenous identity by saying he "is not a member of a recognized tribe" and that he has an indigenous aunti, I think that's all I got personally

Can’t find it now, but there’s a comment on an old video stating he got a job offer in Colorado after the England thing fell through. Wonder how he’s gonna explain the gofundme funds.

I really dislike the guy but I find it weird to release his deadname

to be fair this is a snark page and not a normal page to just discuss tyler 😭 snark pages are known to not care about being kind to the people they’re about. i personally dont agree with releasing dead names but its what you have to expect on snark subreddits 😭

More replies

tbf there isn’t many people on this snark and OP states they found all this through facebook and tiktok, so if anyone else went looking, they’d find his deadname.

OP said it was all pulled from his public social media accounts, so that's more of Tyler's choice tbh

it’s possible for the car crash to not have killed him — my boyfriend was hit by a car going 35ish mph a decade ago and recovered well and has minimal issues now. if tyler was hit by a car going 50mph it would make sense for him to have titanium ribs.

i do think he’s lying about being two spirit or having any indigenous ancestry (and lies about his ancestry a lot in general)

i don't like him. i come here to laugh at him. hell, i made him on my tomodachi life. but it's transphobic and unnecessary to release his deadname. if you consider yourself an ally, please reconsider.

Wrong. “His body totaled a Lexus” 🤣
