They show who we’re closest to and where we have been. They show all our photos, including of our friends. They show our messages and calls. They show our documents that we share together. They show our digital finances. As comrades fighting for revolution, our strength lies in the collective trust we share together. The less the state knows about our relationships, the more we are able to stay safe. The state uses the repressive tactic of device confiscation to criminalise us and map our networks. Giving your passcode to the cops is a form of snitching: giving the state sensitive information on you and your networks. Unlike other tactics the state employs, we have complete control over giving our passcodes to them. Every successful revolutionary movement values building collective loyalty to each other in struggle. On the flipside, this means cultivating a collective culture of non-cooperation with our political enemies, including the cops. We have a responsibility to talk about this with each other, including those newly politicised, so we are on the same page. Not giving your passcode follows the same collective principle as ‘no comment’ to all police questions except your name and address in a first police interview. Handing over your passcode shows your willingness to co-operate with police investigations and provide valuable evidence for the police. It breaks the trust we have with each other by not putting collective security first. We write this zine because we have seen too often the state exploit a lack of seriousness in our networks of the gravity of giving our passcodes to our enemies. When queers took to the streets despite this, they faced violence from the cops. Cops particularly targeted trans people and those with Palestinian flags. This is no surprise or accident. Fuck cops! Fuck zionism! Fuck corporate pride! Fuck colonial capitalism! We send our rage and solidarity. Let’s not forget this same racist system murdered Aboriginal trans woman, Veronica Baxter in ‘sydney’, in 2009. No justice, peace! 1978 vs 2026: same racist capitalist colony... pinkwashing as cover Despite small gains, the same system is intact as in 1978, where cops bashed queers, and arrested 53 people who were marching in gay solidarity. What’s changed is the state now uses partial decriminalisation to sow the illusion of ‘queer friendliness’, to paper over its systemic violence: known as pinkwashing. We know this friendliness is bullshit, reserved for the privileged. The same state killed a record number of Black people in its cages last year, leaves many of us poor and precarious, raids migrant sex worker workplaces for deportation, locks up marginalised trans women in ‘men’s prisons’ and arms genocidal ‘israel’. build community defence! Notes on struggle against ‘israeli’ president Herzog’s visit to ‘melbourne’ 12-02-26 ‘israeli’ president Isaac Herzog brazenly visited his compatriot genocidal settler colonial state for four days This followed a feeling of lull in struggle as the ruling class rammed us all with the fear of intensified state repression following the Bondi shooting, and the Palestine solidarity struggle demobilised in the time of a false one-sided ‘ceasefire’. In the week leading up to Herzog’s visit here on Thursday 12th of February, mass outrage grew online following the predictable brazen mass police violence in ‘sydney’ on Monday 9th February, following the crowd defying both cops and movement leaders. This laid coals for both explosive potential and fizzling smoke for us. We see parallels (we’ll touch on more later), in reflections circulated online, that Palestine Action Group’s leaders failed to rise with the community sentiment to defy police pressure, and prepare to resist police who signaled long in advance they would not let the crowd march and instead attack our side (see @Sydneypalestineactions on insta for more). On the same Monday 9th night here in ‘melbourne’, police repressed some people after an apparent flag burning at the end of the rally at parliament. Despite some staunch push back and anger at the cops as they arrested and detained people, prominent leaders split on the mic between anger at police violently arresting people and disassociating from the supposed ‘criminals’ involved, mirroring the state dividing some people into ‘bad protestors’. A coalition of groups, Free Palestine Coalition Naarm to Socialist Alternative dominated Students for Palestine had originally called a 3PM rally at Southern Cross station for Thursday 12th, which was plugged at the Monday rally of thousands. The intel at the time was that Herzog’s Zionist community event would be at the Exhibition Centre, which the rally would then march to in some form.
