Moderator Logs MAJOR IMPROVEMENTS are now LIVE!

Mod Logs v2 is live

I built tagVotes around one idea: moderation should be verifiable, not trusted. If a mod removes your post, you should be able to see who did it, when, and why, and if something feels off, you should be able to check their whole record, not just take our word for it.

The first version of the mod log gave you the basics. v2 goes a lot further.

Here's what just shipped.

What's new

🔎 Search mod logs by moderator

Every tag's mod log now supports keyword search on moderator username. Want to see every action a specific mod has taken in a tag? Type their name into the filter. Combine it with date ranges and action types to narrow further.

📰 Public RSS and JSON feeds

Every tag's mod log is now subscribable. Paste the RSS URL into any feed reader or point a script at the JSON endpoint and you'll get every new mod action as it happens.

You don't need to trust us, and you don't need an API key. Audit in real time, build a bot, mirror it elsewhere. It's yours.

👤 Per-user mod history on every profile

Visit any user's profile and you'll now see a Mod History tab showing every action a mod has taken against them, removed posts, removed comments, bans, warnings, reversals. With running totals. Including the count of how many of those actions were later reversed.

This cuts both ways. If you think a user's getting targeted, you can verify. If a mod claims "this user has been warned before," you can check.

📜 Tag settings changes are logged with before/after diffs

When a moderator edits tag rules, description, or settings, the mod log now stores a diff , what it was, what it became, who changed it, when. If a rule quietly appears to justify a removal, it's on the permanent record.

⚖️ Reversal chains stay visible

When one mod reverses another mod's action, both entries stay in the log, the original action and the reversal. Neither gets hidden. If reversals happen multiple times ("ping-pong"), each step is preserved separately.

You see the full argument play out. We don't rewrite history.

🔒 Private-tag logs respect membership

Logs inside private tags are only visible to members of that tag. But inside the tag, the moderators can never hide their own actions from their own members. Same rules as every public mod log, scoped to the people who live there.

A few smaller things I fixed along the way

  • Ban-modification actions are now correctly attributed to the moderator who changed the ban, not the user who was banned. (Embarrassing bug; good catch.)

  • UnbanUser actions now appear in the "ban appeals granted" aggregate, not mixed in with generic reversals.

  • Dismissed-report logs no longer expose the reporter's custom reason text. That was a privacy leak; it's gone.

  • Comment-restored and post-restored notifications are now separately opt-in-able in your notification preferences (previously bundled under the "removed" toggle).

Why this matters

On most platforms, moderation is a black box. The mod acts, the content disappears, and "the decision is final." That's fine for companies that want plausible deniability. It's not fine for a community.

Every feature in this update exists so you can verify rather than trust. Search what happened. Subscribe to what's happening. Check the record on any user, including yourself. Read the diffs. Watch the reversals.

Mods aren't going anywhere, every community needs them. But on tagVotes, the condition of the job is that your work is on the record, in public, by default.

Questions, feedback, bugs? Drop them in the comments or the meta Tag. The mod log is itself open. If you spot something the tool should show that it doesn't, I want to hear it.

Content by Mangs and his supporters is not welcome here

For those who need background information, here are a few useful links:

https://www.reddit.com/r/fireemblem/comments/hnwdpx/links_to_mangs_sexual_assault_allegations/

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d8JDGEx0A-Q

https://web.archive.org/web/20230903181058/https%3A%2F%2Fadvancewars.fandom.com%2Fwiki%2FUser_blog%3AMasterKnight%2FWhy_Mangs_content_is_not_welcome_on_the_Advance_Wars_Wikia

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AEMY1fxm0qI

Mangs is a proven problematic person and, as information in the 2nd and 3rd links indicate, his supporters give him so much power in their own less than healthy intentions. As such, content by Mangs or his supporters is strictly forbidden to discourage giving them support. We will be wise to attempts to subtly advertise Mangs' content as well. Those who want to try us will be met with snark like this at minimum: https://feuniverse.us/t/is-fire-emblem-vision-quest-overhyped/26551/53

Discussion of Mangs, while not something the community should focus on due to being political, won't be closed if it's provided in good faith, which certain other communities won't involve due to them being far more interested in lies and censorship. Those who figure the discussion should keep going until Mangs and his enablers answer for what they have done will be treated with clear consideration at minimum, providing they are not attempting to twist as much for abuse. Action will be taken against anybody who attempts to exploit some loophole for attempts to undermine the credibility of efforts to associate Mangs with his heinous actions.

If in doubt when posting somebody else's content, ask the moderators in DM before posting and see what they think.

Welcome to the t/Switch2 Tag!

Hello and welcome to t/Switch2! While, yes, you can seemingly post Switch 2 content in t/Nintendo_Switch, I thought it would make sense to create a Switch 2-specific tag as things finally ramp up again for Switch 2-exclusive releases like Splatoon Raiders and Yoshi and the Mysterious Book!

The rules are pretty simple, and can be found on the sidebar when you visit the tag.

Let me know if you have any questions about the tag or its rules below!

What's new on tagVotes

A batch of updates just landed.

Sharing

  • Thread links shared on Twitter/X, Discord, Slack, iMessage, Facebook, and LinkedIn now show post-specific previews — the post's own title, excerpt, and image, instead of the generic site card. Video posts get a Twitter player card; YouTube posts pull the YouTube thumbnail.

Reading threads

  • Every comment section has a Best / New / Old sort toggle. Long threads are finally easy to navigate.

Posting

  • A blocking modal now shows for the full lifecycle of a post — uploading, processing, publishing — so it's clear when something is still in flight. Previously the page just sat there silently during the publish step.

For mods

  • Mods can now edit a tag's capitalization in tag settings (test → TeSt). URLs don't change; only the display casing does.

  • "Display Title" is now "Tagline" — clearer distinction from the tag's actual name.

Safety

  • Direct messages now enforce site-wide bans (a banned user can't DM their way around a suspension).

  • Changing your password now revokes all bearer tokens — a leaked token can't survive a password rotation.

  • API list endpoints (comments, messages, notifications, conversations) are capped server-side so nothing can be abused.

Bugs and suggestions welcome — leave them in the comments or DM me.

New feature: You can now sort comments!

Comments on every thread now have a sort control - Best, New, or Old.

  • Best (default) - highest-voted replies float up. Good for catching up on a long thread.

  • New - freshest comments first. Good for live threads, AMAs, or anything unfolding in real time.

  • Old - oldest first. Good for reading a discussion the way it actually happened.

It sits right above the comment list on any post. Your choice doesn't stick between threads on purpose - every thread opens on Best.

Small thing, but threads with a hundred replies are a lot easier to navigate now. (if we ever get a Thread with hundreds of replies 😂)

Smash hot take smash is better without dozens of guest character (3rd party characters)

Well a small amount of 2 or 3 is fine the over abundance of them kind of takes away from what made smash cool in the first place, being a cross over of Nintendo's greatest achievements. A common excuse I hear is "It's a celebration of gaming" but if that we're true, the amount of Nintendo characters would be reduced to a 3rd or 4th of the roster and we would have Kratos and Sackboy and other characters that made gaming what it is today.

Plus a dozens of other reasons but I don't feel like writing 40 pages of words
