I usually don’t like showing off my sketches, but this time I have to prove they’re not AI-generated. My art is 100% mine—back in 2024, I took art lessons after my work was called trash, which really upset me. Anyway, here’s my sketch, and if anyone claims it’s AI, I’ll flag your comment as spam!

Transspecies — it’s exactly what it sounds like, and it’s as real as transgender identity. Just as someone may be assigned male at birth but know deeply they are a woman—or nonbinary, or any other gender outside the binary—someone may be assigned human at birth but know, in their truest self, that they are not human.
Being transspecies means your internal, core identity aligns with a species other than the one you were born as. This could mean identifying as a fox, a wolf, a dragon, a feline—any being, real or mythical, that resonates with your soul. It’s not a costume. It’s not a hobby. It’s not “just furry.” It’s an identity.
For many transspecies individuals, this awareness emerges early in life—a persistent, unwavering sense of being in the wrong body, the wrong species. This can lead to species dysphoria: distress caused by the mismatch between one’s physical human form and one’s internal species identity.
Just as transgender people may pursue social, legal, and medical transition to align their bodies and lives with their gender, transspecies people may pursue forms of species affirmation. This can include:
Social transition: Adopting a new name, using species-specific pronouns (e.g., it/its, fae/faer, or custom sets), wearing gear like tails, ears, or collars in public, and living socially as their true species.
Community: Finding family and recognition within the furry, otherkin, and therian communities, where such identities are understood and respected.
Body modification: Some may pursue body art (tattoos, scarification), subdermal implants, or other modifications to feel more aligned with their species identity.
Spiritual and psychological practices: Engaging in meditation, ritual, or voice training to connect with and express their inner self.
Transspecies identity is not about believing you are literally biologically a different species in this physical lifetime. It is about a profound, identity-level connection that transcends the human experience. It’s about the soul, not the chromosomes.
To deny someone’s transspecies identity is as cruel and ignorant as denying someone’s transgender identity. It is a rejection of their lived experience, their truth, and their right to self-definition.
We fight for a world where everyone can be their authentic self—whether that self is trans, queer, kinky, or transspecies. Liberation is intersectional, or it is nothing.
