Written for the ’28 Days of Rain’ Challenge
Johnny Madrid – fast draw. Killer.
Johnny figured he might just as well have been carrying a sign, the way people ran off the street when they saw him riding in. Nothing wrong with that.
It did a body good to know people respected him. And feared him. It felt fine to see folks parting the way for him – women, children, and men – especially the men – looking up at him on his impressive horse and then running off the street to seek shelter in buildings. No doubt cowering inside, hoping Johnny Madrid wasn’t looking for them.
Nope, he thought, you’re all safe. I’m not working today. I’m looking for a drink and a chair without a pommel. No need to panic.
But he liked it anyhow. It was good to be respected.
Another good reason for respect might have been the tornado creeping up behind him.
