Hi! Let me also jump in for a bit. Firstly, the point you raised is a great one. I think Queso was just saying specifically that moderation action may not be instantaneous in the sense that we may not be able to catch it all the time as soon as someone utters bigotry in game. I think our approach to moderation will be many fold. Firstly, we will need to set a community guideline and terms of use that will clearly prohibit bigotry and hate speech, and give us the ability to have the discretion to take enforcement actions. We'll also need a good set of moderation tools to allow us to act asap. All these we did with Guns as well. We'll also have a ban word list that we'll actively update. While this is not a catch all, it'll give us a baseline to work from. Then I think it's up to us to be active and also have a good moderation structure that allows a group of moderators that we trust to be able to respond quickly in game. With community servers, that essentially provides an additional layer of moderation, as the server hosts also have access to moderation tools on the server. The moderation tools that we and the game moderators are global across all servers, so we can go in and take action on all servers. The community servers that have good track record of moderation and citizenship, we could also feature and promote those servers.

This is what we've thought of so far, and we'll look to do more. Essentially you're right. In order for everyone to enjoy the game long term, we'll need to have good moderation and maintain it.

Hope this adds a bit more detail.

Thanks so much!!

Currently we don't. A big reason is that we don't have experience designing, managing, and promoting free to play games. We've always made games for people to buy. The way we design the game as well as the backend are all geared towards that. With Guns, the in game purchases are for cosmetic only, and with Stars, it'll be the same. We're trying to focus on a gameplay experience that would feel balanced, and we want to avoid pay to win, so it's a decision that we made to go with pay to download. There are obvious trade offs, but at the end of the day, we want to create a game that's fun to play, where people feel like they are getting their money's worth in fun. If we don't make as much money or have as wide of a reach, it's something we'll have to live with. Hope this answers it! Thanks so much for the question!

I think it'll be a combination of a number of things. On the community end, some of the things from Guns that worked well were events (ex. dev hours) and tournaments, some of those we hosted, and some community hosted. We want to have an events and tournament calendar so that there would be something for people to look forward to regularly. One thing we want to do better is to have events for players with different skill levels, or to have more of a mixer type event for players to meet each other. A big aspect of this would be regular contents and feature updates with new maps, ships, guns, balances, and interesting features. Another aspect is progression. This we definitely want to improve from the Guns experience. We want to have a more tailored progression system that is more streamlined, with achievements that are more interesting, and incorporate some challenges that are fun to do. We also need to continue to promote the game beyond release, to hopefully work with streamers and take advantage of showcase opportunities to continue to bring new people into the game.

Ohai there! Guns of Icarus Alliance is the successor to Guns of Icarus Online, thanks to a kickass kickstarter we could make what was once an idea of a mere DLC into a fully fleshed game, and really complete our vision of the 5 year old game by revamping it all round! To thank everyone who once owned Guns of Icarus Online, and at the same time to not spit the fanbase we wanted GOIO to link into Guns of Icarus Alliance PVP, giving you a new game with the same mechanics as the old one, and replacing it. Steam didn't have a way to do this organically, so we frankensteined something together. These games are now forever linked, and we're just happy people get to see what it has become :) Hope this makes sense, and thanks so much for commenting!

Hi guys, thanks to your awesome help, we got this working in no time. Steam apologised for the bug and we should be up and running. Free Copies for everyone! YAY!!!

Steam's comment on the Guns of Icarus Alliance Steam thread: http://prntscr.com/jm6l9t

And for those asking: You can keep Guns of Icarus Alliance forever, but only if you hop into the game in the advertised time window of 4 days! Hope this clears up your confusion :)

All the best from the team

Hey guys! Thanks for letting us know that you are having issues!

We're pinging Steam and getting this resolved, but any issues will help us track this down sooner: 1) What OS and version are you on? 2) Is it possible to redeem this from the website, or mobile app, and then download directly from the library? 2) What exactly happens when you press play (detailed step by step, some people reported that a window opened and closed - that sort of stuff)

Thanks for your patience, and with your help we'll get this working ASAP!

Ohai! Thanks for reporting this issue, we're looking into it ASAP.

It seems like people are reporting very separate issues, and it would help us to narrow it down by your experiences

  • What OS are you playing from (Win/Mac/Linux) and which version?

  • What happens when you press PLAY (as detailed as possible please)

We're already reached out to Steam, but this additional information would be useful! Thanks so much, and sorry for the annoyance. Keep us posted, we definitely want to get this working for you guys.
