nobody is faking POTS, fibromyalgia or ME/CFS for attention because nobody gives a fuck if you have POTS, fibromyalgia or ME/CFS. these are three conditions people are always accused of faking online (largely because they’re common chronic illnesses and young women are disproportionately effected by them 😃) and it’s like…..look around bitch. when was the last time you saw a fund for a cure CFS walkathon? you ever see a Google banner for fibromyalgia? these are illnesses that suck to have and that you are often treated like absolute dogshit by the medical community and pop culture at large if you do have them. you don’t get positive attention, or any attention at all, if you’re at home laying down 85% of your life.

i, jokingly, wished her a happy christian passover this easter, mistakenly thinking that her holiday wishes were also a lighthearted joke. i have since been sentenced to six paragraph texts and groupchat mediation jail as if we were middle schoolers
as stupid as this whole thing is, its just frustrating that it’s ok for my religion to be boiled down to “the default religion without jesus” by both my christian and atheist friends. i thought i got all the posts about cultural christianity out of my system with christmas, but i suppose there’s no rest for the wicked

second, just adding some context, this actually isnt the usual american christian-centrism that i usually talk about! this person is ukranian and grew up eastern orthodox christian, so its european christian-centrism instead.
i’ve had a couple of similar instances with her, but i didn’t realise how much ive been tolerating until i posted this and read all the comments and reblogs. the worst of which being the time i told her that my grandparents were originally from the same region of ukraine as her, but that they fled because of the pogroms. and she denied the ukranian involvement in pogroms. which don’t get me wrong, the russians were definitely the big perpetrators of the pogroms, but there were also many, many, many ukranians who also participated in pogroms (like the one my grandparents fled, which was started by local ukrainian villagers. lowkey her grandparents probably participated too against my grandparents. but whatever).
long-winded point being, i talk about american cultural christianity a lot, but i tend to not talk about european christian-centrism as often (even though in my experience it’s usually worse) because there are less non-christian minorities in europe than there are in america.
also, thank you tumblr for forcing me to reconsider what type of people i keep as friends. i’m gonna call her soon and try to communicate my frustrations (which i think is much more age-appropriate than a confrontation group chat), and if that doesn’t work, i may have to reconsider out friendship

Also quick history lesson, semite used to be a linguistic term, aka referring to a group of languages. Then white supremist “race scientists” decided to use it as a racial category for jews only. And since the holocaust, it has gone back to being a linguistic only term. The term anti-semitism was coined because the previous German term of judenhaas (jew hate) wasn’t intellectual enough and was coined when the race scientists defition of semite was being used.
absolutely boggles my mind how so many social media sites do NOT want you scrolling without an account. can’t even click on an instagram profile while not being logged in without it blocking you. even if you put it in the url, it only lets you scroll like twice before it prompts you to log in. fucking youtube won’t let me watch videos on my phone anymore because i use firefox focus and don’t want to log in every time i wanna watch a video so it’s instead flagged me as a bot. i also think social media sites are drastically overestimating how badly i “need” to use their sites. if you won’t let me browse someone’s profile or watch a damn video on the Browsing Profiles and Watching Videos social media sites then i will simply leave. the power of chucking your phone into the metaphorical ocean. i hope i hurt their metrics every time i close out of a tab <3
i think a lot of people internalized the misogynistic idea that “men are rational and women are emotional” and just went “that’s true… but it’s a good thing!” instead of saying “that’s obviously bullshit and we shouldn’t perpetuate this belief in any form”
