Subscription fees for YouTube Premium, Music are increasing
Why are streaming fees going up?
(NEXSTAR) – “Streamflation” appears to have struck again, with YouTube announcing last week that its subscription prices are about to rise.
While most other major streaming services have raised fees within the last year, this is YouTube’s price increase since 2023, the company told Variety and Business Insider.
The increases will impact YouTube Premium and YouTube Music.
An individual YouTube Premium now costs $15.99 a month, up from $13.99, while a family plan is now $26.99 per month, up $4. The Premium Lite plan is up $1 to $8.99 a month.
YouTube Music customers will notice a $1 price hike for individual accounts, now $11.99 a month, and a $2 increase for the family plan to $18.99 a month.
If you are already a subscriber to any of these plans, the new subscription fees are expected to kick in when your next billing cycle begins in June, Variety reported. The prices are now in effect for new subscribers.
A spokesperson told Variety that this is the first time YouTube has “updated” plan fees since 2023.
“This change allows us to maintain the features our members value most: ad-free viewing, background play, and a massive library of 300M+ tracks on YouTube Music.”
YouTube is now the latest media company to raise its subscription fees.
Netflix and Spotify have already raised prices this year, while Disney+, Hulu, and Peacock rolled out price increases last year.
