i know she recently got a gold medal in the olympics and is kind of a cool person, but what the fuck does this have to do with Russia and its invasion of Ukraine???
im tourist to ice skating stuff, nosey, but nevertheless tourist so it is not the whole context but
russia got banned from competing so alyssa won gold without competing against the so called best ice skater from russia. hence try compete with a real boss russia flag.

With the war in Ukraine, Russian athletes have been banned from competing at the Olympics, so a shockingly common sentiment among figure skating fans leaning towards the traditionalist side of the spectrum is that the win counts less because the „best“ athletes weren’t competing.
