John Woo and Chow Yun-Fat: Together Again?

I was chatting recently with an old friend that has close ties to director John Woo's camp. Obviously, our conversation eventually got around to what Woo's next project might be after his World War II drama Windtalkers is released this fall. My friend matter-of-factly revealed that Woo's next film might be The Line. A few months ago, Variety revealed that Propaganda Films had bought newcomer Tom Vaughan's spec script and that Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon star Chow Yun-Fat was attached to star in it. The trade reported that the period revenge flick was about "Gun-Li, a Chinese railroad worker who arrives in San Francisco, realizes that he and his wife have been sold into slavery and vows revenge."

Variety also stated that the $30 million dollar film was "is in the process of locking in <img src="https://moviesmedia.ign.com/movies/image/chow2.jpg" width="102" height="136" align="left" border="0" alt="

a director (with) plans to start production in late fall." That fits in with this new rumor we've heard about Woo being offered the project. Again, we must stress that the prospect of another team-up between the director and star of The Killer, Hard-Boiled, and A Better Tomorrow is just a rumor right now. Our source implied that The Line was just one of many possible options open to Woo so it might not happen. Still, you'd have to be dead not to be excited by the possibility of Woo and Yun-Fat finally pairing for a big American feature film after years of failed efforts (like King's Ransom). After extending his filmmaking range with the military drama Windtalkers, it'd be nice to see John Woo tackle yet another dark chapter from American history such as the grueling experience of Asian immigrants that worked on the railroads of the Old West.

– STAX hopes Woo will walk The Line.
