Competition events
In the ski jumping event, athletes slide down a curved ramp and at the bottom they "fly" (jump), with the goal of landing as far away as possible. The length of the jump and the style (such as stability of the skis during the jump, balance, body position and landing, for which there is a specific technique called Telemark) matter for the final ranking. The competitions at Milano Cortina 2026 will consist of six events for both men and women:

- Women's Large Hill Individual
- Men's Normal Hill Individual
- Men's Large Hill Individual
- Men's Super Team
- Mixed Team
The races will take place in Predazzo, in Val di Fiemme region.

Olympic history
Ski jumping debuted on the Olympic programme at the Olympic Winter Games Chamonix 1924 with the men's large hill ski jump. The men's normal hill ski jump was introduced at Innsbruck 1964, followed by the men's team event at Calgary 1988, the women's normal hill ski jump at Sochi 2014, and the mixed team event at Beijing 2022. An individual women's large hill event and the men’s super team event will be introduced at Milano Cortina 2026.
Basic rules
In the individual events, a trial round is conducted before the final to determine the starting order for the competition. The final consists of two jumps. All 50 athletes take part in the first jump; only the top 30 athletes from the first jump advance to the second jump. The final rankings are determined by adding the scores of both jumps.
In the men’s super team competition, each NOC lines up four athletes divided into four groups of one. The event consists of three jumps – a trial round and two competition rounds. The top eight teams from the second jump advance to the final. In the mixed team event, each NOC picks a team of two women and two men. The event consists of two jumps and the athletes are divided into four groups. After the first jump, the top eight teams participate in the final jump. In all disciplines, points are awarded based on the length and style of the jump as evaluated by the judges.

Frequently asked questions
The main difference between the normal and large hills is size, with the K-point of the normal hill ranging from 85 to 110 metres, and the K-point of the large hill ranging from 100 to 180 metres. Another difference is the score awarded per metre, which is used to convert an athlete's distance into points. For the normal hill, 2 points are awarded per metre, while it is 1.8 for the large hill.
For women, the record for the normal hill is 110 metres, set by Maren Lundby at Pyeongchang 2018.
For the men, the record for the large hill is 146.5 metres, set by Gregor Schlierenzauer at Vancouver 2010.
Skiers earn 60 points if they land at the K-point, and points are awarded or deducted depending on how far they land from that specific point. They are awarded 3.6 points per metre if they land past K-35, 2 points per metre if they land past K-90, and 1.8 points per metre if they land past K-120.
Matti Nykänen from Finland has the most Olympic medals in ski jumping, with five: four gold and one silver.
The most decorated female ski jumper at the Olympic Games is Slovenian athlete Urša Bogataj, who has won two gold medals.
Norway leads the way with 35 medals (11 gold, 10 silver and 14 bronze), followed by Finland, with 22 medals (10 gold, 8 silver and 4 bronze) and Austria with 25 medals (6 gold, 9 silver and 10 bronze). Italy has never won an Olympic medal in ski jumping.
Michael Thomas Edwards, also known as Eddie (born 5 December 1963 in Cheltenham), is a former British ski jumper. He was nicknamed "The Eagle" and became famous for being the first British athlete to compete in ski jumping in the Winter Olympics. At the Olympic Winter Games Calgary 1988, he finished last in the K70 and K90 events, but his determination and courage has made him a historical figure.
The events will be held in Predazzo, in Val di Fiemme region.
Milano Cortina 2026 will see the first women's individual large hill ski jumping event. The men's super team replaces the men's large hill team event.
