- Rainbow Studios/Mirage Studios It all started when Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman's Mirage Studios began developing a new CG-animated TMNT TV show with Rainbow Studios. Rainbow is the animation company behind the much-cooler-than-the-movie Starship Troopers CG-animated series. Mirage and Rainbow have created a 5-minute promotional trailer that they're currently shopping around to networks. It hasn't been picked up yet, but word is that it's really cool!
So where does John Woo come in? Well, Woo and his production partner Terence Chang have their own digital entertainment company called Digital Rim. The company was formed to produce and distribute digital movies, games, and CG imagery for film and TV, but Woo and Chang aren't doing the animation themselves. Digital Rim is actually a partnership between Woo/Chang, Rainbow Studios and another studio, Digital Dream. When they saw the work that Rainbow had done with the Turtles, it piqued their interest.
So what will the film be like? The stills you see in this story are from the TV show trailer, so it can be assumed the film would have the same look. There are two more stills posted over at the Official Ninja Turtles Site. It looks so sweet! Laird has even said that he's going to do what he can to take the Turtles back to their darker and edgier roots like in the earliest issues of the comic.
