After years working in team-based primary care, Dr. Matthew Sakumoto has seen how often documentation becomes the bottleneck that slows everyone down. In his latest piece, our Chief Clinical Product Officer shares why ambient AI should strengthen the entire care team, not just the physician. When notes are delayed, nurse educators, care managers, and coordinators can’t move forward. When documentation keeps pace with the visit, the whole team can act in real time. Ambient AI isn’t just about less time charting — it’s about unlocking better coordination and stronger patient outcomes across the care team. Read the piece here: https://lnkd.in/eaZ8wNr5

Clinical work doesn’t happen in one place. It happens in fragments: during the encounter, between patients, early in the morning, late at night. A note that needs one more section. A referral that has to go out. An inbox message that can’t wait. Over time, those moments have been split across different tools, each with its own workflow, contract, and cost. Ambient AI has changed part of that picture. But only part. We spoke with Nabla’s Chief Product Officer Laurent Landowski and Chief Clinical Product Officer Matthew Sakumoto about what was still missing, and why dictation was the natural next step toward something simpler: one system for the entire clinical day. Health systems aren’t just looking to improve documentation—they’re looking to improve outcomes across clinical and financial workflows. At UToledo Health, that meant choosing a partner that could scale across teams and adapt to real-world needs. In just 8 weeks, they saw: • 29% faster chart closure • Improved documentation and coding accuracy • Better capture of higher-acuity visits The difference? Close collaboration to ensure the technology worked for clinicians—not the other way around. We’re proud to have partnered with R. Ryan Sadeghian, whose leadership helped make this system-wide rollout a success. To read more about the partnership ➡️ https://lnkd.in/e9Qj6GVP

Human in the loop—or human in the way? That was the question at the heart of a packed #HIMSS2026 Physicians Community Roundtable, where clinical leaders debated the next phase of healthcare AI: the shift from ambient AI that documents care to agentic AI that can act within clinical workflows. Moderated by our Chief Medical Officer Ed Lee, MD, MPH,  and featuring R. Ryan Sadeghian (HIRING), MD, MBA,MSc, FACHDM, FHIMSS, FAAPL, FAAP, Doug McKee, M.D., FAAFP, FAMIA, and Dr. Dr. Bita Behrouzi the conversation explored: • The emerging “autonomy ladder” for healthcare AI • Why governance and trust may be bigger barriers than technology • How health systems are already exploring agentic workflows in revenue cycle, care coordination, and patient safety • What advances like world models could mean for the next generation of clinical AI The big takeaway from HIMSS: healthcare isn’t just experimenting with AI anymore. The governance models developed for ambient AI are now becoming the foundation for safely introducing agentic AI. Full recap of the discussion: 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eapKfNm4

Ambient AI doesn’t succeed because of great transcription. It succeeds because it solves the right problem. On the Claims Denied podcast by Hospitalogy, our Chief Clinical Product Officer, Dr. Matt Sakumoto, reflects on his years practicing at Sutter Health and shares a practical perspective on implementing ambient AI in real-world health systems. In the episode, he discusses: • Why health systems must define the problem first before choosing AI tools • How documentation challenges extend beyond physicians to the entire care team • What it takes to align ambient AI with real clinical workflows • The financial complexity facing health systems of all sizes • Why AI must deliver measurable operational impact, not just efficiency gains For leaders thinking about AI adoption, this episode cuts through the noise. 🎧 Listen to the full episode of Claims Denied here: https://lnkd.in/e2zW8TBJ

Our strategic partner AMI - Advanced Machine Intelligence has announced a $1.03B funding round to advance world models, a new class of AI systems designed to understand how real-world environments work, not just generate language. Why does that matter for healthcare? As AI expands across clinical workflows, systems must go beyond answering questions. They need to understand context, navigate complex environments, and operate safely within the realities of care delivery. Through our partnership with AMI Labs, Nabla is exploring how these emerging architectures can help shape the next generation of clinical AI. Learn more in our latest blog: https://lnkd.in/eXKqxwJy

Today on International Women’s Day, we’re reflecting on the progress made, as well as the work still ahead in building more equitable leadership in healthcare and technology. According to a 2023 McKinsey study, women hold just 32% of C-suite roles globally. At Nabla, 50% of our executive leadership team are women. This didn’t happen by accident. Building diverse leadership is a conscious choice — and one that strengthens how we build products, support clinicians, and serve health systems.

Clinicians at Aultman Health System are choosing to rely on Nabla during complex visits, where presence and precision both matter. Our ambient AI assistant helps them keep key discussion points top of mind, document in their own style, and move seamlessly across visit types, including acute visits. That trust is driving Aultman Health System to scale Nabla to hundreds of clinicians, embedded natively within Oracle Cerner across inpatient and outpatient settings. Since we started working together, clinicians have reported: ☑️ 30-60 minutes saved per day on documentation ☑️ 20-40% reduction in documentation time per patient ☑️ In some cases, the ability to see 3-5 additional patients per day Building on this rollout, Aultman is expanding Nabla system-wide, including family medicine, oncology, surgery, and urology. Note generation speed is often the first “aha” moment for clinicians using Nabla, especially during complex, multi-problem visits. When notes keep up in real time, clinicians don’t mentally hold details for later and can stay fully present with the patient. Saving a few minutes per visit quickly compounds into hours back each week. And when notes are done same-day, work doesn’t follow clinicians home.

We are often asked how clinician feedback shapes our approach to training and onboarding in practice, and the answer is simple: we listen closely and translate what clinicians need into practical updates that make adoption easier. ➡ When clinicians asked for training that reflected their specialties, we introduced tailored video walkthroughs for each partner organization. ➡ When clinicians asked for short, workflow based training, we expanded our plug and play training library so teams can make full use of Nabla’s features. Ambient AI has long been recognized for its potential to reduce clinician burnout, but documentation is just one part of the broader efficiency puzzle. Every health system operates with unique workflows, pressures, and priorities, which means the impact of ambient tools can vary. What’s encouraging is that studies like the one recently published in the NEJM AI bring real-world clarity to where these technologies make the greatest difference. This latest publication is a positive step forward for physicians and patients alike. It sets an important benchmark for understanding how to match the right solutions to each health system’s specific needs, meeting clinicians where they are, at the point of care, to reduce friction, administrative burden, and ultimately burnout. At Nabla, we’ve always believed that technology should feel invisible, supportive, and built directly around clinical workflows. We’re proud to see the outcomes reflected in this study, and we look forward to continuing to partner with health systems to reshape the clinician experience and help deliver better care for all. This week at HLTH Inc., our Co-Founder & COO Delphine Groll joined the panel “So You Want to Build an AI Company?” to share her perspective on what it really takes to build impactful, trustworthy technology in healthcare. Delphine discussed how choosing the right technology for your company, whether leveraging a third-party LLM or developing a proprietary model is only the beginning. The quality of your data, the agility of your evaluation framework, and ensuring your AI is measurably improving outcomes that meet the needs of clinicians and healthcare systems. '"When it comes to very complex, human-specific aspects of healthcare, it’s true that our own proprietary model performs very well. For example, for separating several voices during an encounter we call that diarization, we train and improve our in-house models every day.” This is one of the many ways we uniquely leverage technology to set ourselves apart and deliver AI that is not only cutting-edge, but deeply attuned to the realities of healthcare and the needs of our users.
