This is a symbolic work that can be termed "unplugged" by Ryoji Ikeda, who has built the pinnacle of electronic music and digital aesthetics over the past 30 years. Ikeda collaborated with Ensemble Modern to translate the digital thought and methodology he has adhered to into the grammar of acoustic and analog music, with both precision and flexibility. He incorporated not only the acoustic and physical characteristics of the instruments but also the performer's physicality, gestures, and subtle movements as essential elements of the composition. In this performance, the obsessive synchronization characteristic of his work expands to encompass the human body, the instruments, and the relationships between humans. The titles of the four pieces comprising the work are all about "light." This aligns closely with the trajectory of Ikeda, who has treated light for decades as a core medium for the "visualization of data" and the "sensory realization of mathematical structures."
