Ibn Taymiyah, approvingly quoting the words of al-Dārimī, the author of al-Naqḍ ʿalā al-Marīsī:
“For the Living, the Self-Subsisting does whatever He wills: He moves if He wills; He descends and ascends if He wills; He withholds and extends; He stands and sits if He wills.

Ibn Taymiyah venerated the books of al-Dārimī — the very author of these words — regarding what he called the “Monotheism of the Names and Attributes.”
