Hey y'all! It's been a short minute!
I've been thinking a lot about the future of Harbor City, and generally what I can do with this project at this point in my life. I have a lot of leeway for big personal projects right now, and these critters have been occupying the folds of my brain for coming on 8 years now. I've been so fortunate with the response I've gotten from you all, and I cannot thank you all enough for your interest in them for the past few years. I've been really trying to make the most of what I can do with my time and with this project before other things in my life start taking priority, so I'm trying to think long-game about what the "endpoint" is for Harbor City. I use that term in quotes because, if I get the chance, I'll always be happy making things with these characters, but right now I kind of feel like the show has been kind of hunched to the ground at the starting line, smiling at everyone and doing some funny squats, and I'd like it to get the chance to make at least one lap around the track. I've gotten to learn so much with the episodes I've made so far, from all the wonderful collaborators I've had the privilege of working with, and from the always-motivating response from you all with each new installment. I feel like I'm ready to take a real run at making this show into what it needs to be for me - whether it works out or not, I don't know, but I'm itching to try.
The concept that's been rolling around in my head is 10 episodes, 15 minutes at the longest each, created in about a year and a half or so, and released publicly weekly once they're all completed. Subscribers to my Patreon would get access to some version of the completed episodes as they are completed, and teaser clips from those finished episodes would go on my social media pages while I'm making my way through producing the rest. I have real character beats that have rested in ever-shifting documents for years that I hope could see the light of day, plenty of situations I want to see the main trio interact with, and additionally, I really get things done when I have deadlines hanging over me. I'm still kind of getting ready for this sprint, trying to streamline production with asset and animation libraries, and really ironing out what the characters need in these 10 installments. I'm hoping that I can keep the pace I'm setting for myself, the next couple weeks will be really important to make sure I haven't bitten off entirely too much on my own here. And additionally, in the back of my mind I can't help but be a little paranoid that waiting that long to release another mainline episode might cause my posts' reach to dwindle to nil, algorithms and all. But still, I feel like if I can pull it off, this will do the characters the sort of justice that lets me have peace with the project, no matter what's next.
Thank you for reading! I hope that I can see this project through for both myself and you all - I truly would not be making this if not for your support. I'm very excited about what's in the pot, but I still got a lot of groceries to get. Let's see where this goes, team!
