A real-life case study in anonymous internet harassment and insider threat: I must sadly retract my endorsement of Kevin Crawley, as I have recently learned he is a Kiwi Farms member. I believe he may pose a safety risk to his colleagues, or even to his employer.

A huge thanks to and the team at KUSK Law for their support over the past several years, but especially the work in the past few weeks to stop the harassment at its source.
PS: this is not the only positive ID we have on tech employees who use KF.

Hmm, I wonder why this might be, maybe Crawley's colleagues are curious what could have caused a disciplinary action by Meta against their (current? former?) colleague.
In any event, he's gone silent everywhere - KF, HN, Reddit, Wikipedia, LinkedIn, & other places. Actions have consequences.
The Meta employee relations department's investigation into Kevin Crawley has concluded.
Separately, I've learned from industry sources that Kevin Crawley is no longer employed by Meta.
Being a member of Kiwi Farms and engaging in racist and transphobic tirades is bad for one's career.

This is so disturbing. The thing that gets me about this is the need to go anonymous. The them of cowardice with so many of these folks is astounding. If you've got something to say, say it with your chest & to the person or sit down. This is truly an insane betrayal and supreme act of cowardice

Years ago, I wrote a piece on trolling and harassment of women that got featured on Slashdot. Because weev was central to that story, it attracted his attention. We'd tangled before on Kuro5hin, a long defunct site. He and his group mass called my employer trying to get me fired. They're tenacious.

The thing is, this isn't an abstract "person out there". He was someone I genuinely respected and enjoyed collaborating with and I don't know what happened to the Kevin I knew!
he isn't a "these people" to me, he's someone that I knew, and that I wish I could bring back from whatever has happened to him.
you are an incredibly gracious soul to assume that this wasn't always him and that he can be brought back. I will try to channel that graciousness.
And the fact that he managed to make you trust him enough for you to endorse him in the first place is scary. At this point, no amount of personal vetting seems enough to trust anybody but yourself.

It's kind of why I don't hand any credibility to the "male loneliness epidemic" junk that is pushed. Right-wing dudes have the most cozy and cushy lives in comparison to the undesirables they hate, they're just awful people who want to treat others miserably for existing differently.
They only coast through life via the generosity of others. I think it's best if people doing extra favors for them. It is never reciprocated, instead they use it as an opportunity to hurt you further.

Weirdly enough, "the mop" or "the broom" is a Wikipedia term to refer to people who are administrators, because it's a service position rather than a power position. but Wikipedians never call administrators "janitors" or "jannies".
