Oh yeah - the Chinese government who are committing an actual genocide against hundreds of thousands of Uyghur Muslims? The Chinese government who invaded Tibet and destroyed Tibetan culture? The Chinese government who murdered hundreds of their own civilians in Tiananmen Square? That Chinese government?
In the U.K. we don’t vote for Prime Ministers but for our constituency parliamentary representative.

They are a tiny little sect of extremists who support (and are supported by) the Ayatollahs in Iran - the same Ayatollahs who murdered between 40,000 and 70,000 of their own citizens earlier this year. They were founded in 1938 and are considered a fringe group even by the ultra Orthodox. They also support Putin’s invasion of Ukraine. And you support them?
The Iranian defence budget is not a clearly identifiable figure because Iran’s government doesn’t make the full figures available. The general estimates indicate that between 2023 and 2025 the proportion of state spending on defence increased dramatically from around $6bn to $10.7bn.
Whilst that remains a fraction of the annual US defence budget, it should be remembered that the U.S. budget is made fully available by Congress. It is thought that the Iranian defence budget is possibly considerably higher than has been deduced thus far from information made publicly available thus far.

Fine (and I agree). But who is actually going to stop him?
Antisemitism has existed for centuries. No one wants to deliberately kill and maim innocent people, least of all British Jews here in the U.K. who face hatred on a daily basis. And listening to you, if terrorists keep trying to kill you, you can defend yourself and remove that threat, unless you happen to be Jewish. According to you, Jews should do absolutely nothing to stop those trying to kill them, nor should those terrorists in Hamas and Hezbollah be condemned for using civilians as human shields.
The overwhelming majority of the 270,000 British Jews who live in the U.K. support the simple idea that Israel - a land mass no larger than Wales - should exist in peace.
And the simple reality is that for that belief, they are hated and despised by both the Left and the Right in the U.K.
They are called “Zionists” often as a cover by those who refuse to admit what they mean: the suspended orthopaedic surgeon Rameh Aladawan has said as much, refusing to use the term “Zionist” and choosing to call all British Jews “Jewish supremacists.”
To suggest Jew-hatred isn’t part of the so-called “anti-Zionist” movement is a nonsense.

Several reasons: the motion was about one particular type of slavery (African historic slavery), rather than slavery in general; it could also be argued (convincingly, I think) that the 30 million deaths caused by Stalin or the 13 million murdered under the Nazis (6 million Jews, 7 million others) could count as an even graver crime against humanity.
Lastly the motion declared that reparations were necessary, without establishing who would ultimately pay for them, nor why citizens of countries involved in the historic slave trade should be held personably liable for those reparations.
It was a poorly worded motion, based on a less than satisfactory consideration of what was being asked to be agreed.
At the same time remember a very wise Rabbi once said “When three Rabbis talk together, then there are four opinions”! In other words, belief and interpretation take on many forms in Judaism. There isn’t one single “monolithic” view of what faith means, nor one view of which cultural traditions (or minhag) should be followed. But one thing remains absolute: that every person, Jewish or not, has a piece of the divine spark within them.
In that sense, it is correct to say that it makes no difference if you are Jewish or not, nor if you believe or do not. The Eternal One is within each of us, and that makes us united as part of Etz Hayim - the Tree of Life.
Try to remember severe depression is a clinical disorder. It’s a condition that can be fatal in certain circumstances. Indeed, whilst we try to choose life, sometimes that depressive disorder becomes so overwhelming that it leads to this terminal outcome.
And it is tragic, it is destructive for those left behind, and especially awful for their life-partner as a survivor, trying to negotiate life afterwards.
And you too will feel angry, confused, even in denial that this tragic individual who has found only way out is this awful self-destruction.
But never forget depression is an illness - it can be treated, but it can also cause self-destruction.
What do you think Iran would do if it gained nuclear weapons?
Who would it immediately strike? Because if you imagine Iran wouldn’t immediately use them on Israel, you are a fool.
And might I gently point out that if Israel has had nuclear weapons since 1966-7, (and we don’t know if they do, but I’m willing to agree that they do), they could have used them against Iran. They haven’t, and they won’t.
You imply that to claim Israel can defend itself is an irony, that there no such thing.
Then tell me what you would have done after Iran-funded Hamas and Hezbollah - trained and directed by Iran - attacked your country and people on Oct 7 and 8 respectively?
What’s real irony? That for you every nation has the right to defend itself - even proactively - except Israel. And that for you anything Israel does to defend its citizens (Jews, Muslims, Druze, Christian, etc.) is always wrong and cannot be permitted.
Would you have cheered had Iran used nuclear weapons against Israel? I think you would.

Marina Oswald Porter married Kenneth Jess Porter in 1965. They moved to Rockwall, Texas (a quiet suburb of Dallas) with Marina and Oswald’s children, (June and Audrey Oswald). The Porters later had a son, Mark.
On Oct 8, 2024, Kenneth Porter died at the family home of natural causes, aged 86. Marina Oswald Porter continues to live there. She is now 84, and reportedly in declining health.
You would give Iran-funded Hamas, Hezbollah and all their other Islamist terrorist factions free reign to attack the West, and bring terror into the US who they wish to destroy as much as they wish to destroy Europe.

A simple observation: it is perfectly possible to define “God” without recourse to literalism, fundamentalism or some other childish notion.
I am a Jew. I attend Shul (synagogue) here in the U.K.
“God” is not a univocal term, but a conceptual device which expresses an often inexpressive identity.
Thus, for me, “God” is not a personal “thing out there,” but a metaphor for that which is deepest and most profound within each person.
It’s different for each individual. It’s not a “person,” or something which acts in time. Rather, it’s a non-theistic understanding of the universe and our interactions within that universe.
