( season 4, episode 12 )

IT ALL BEGAN IN DALLAS A FEW MONTHS BACK. The two Espinosa sisters had met Abraham and Eugene on the road. Eugene was apparently a scientist, and they were going to Washington D.C because he knew how to save the world.

So they tagged along.

Months with two men hadn't been easy for the Espinosa girls. The constant loud snoring when sleeping or manly attitude of 'let me handle it.' Yeah, totally sucked. But, it was better than being out there by themselves, right? Especially when they were so close to curing this stupid virus.

They were on the road, driving in their huge truck when the young Espinosa spoke up. "Ro, did you hear that?" She asked her sister, trying to listen closely to the voices she'd heard in the distance.

Rosita shook her head, shrugging off her sister's concern. "It was probably nothing, Coco."

Carmen's brows furrowed as she heard the same distant yell again, sounding a lot like a 'help.' "There's someone out there. Can we stop the truck?"

"Stop being so damn curious, kid." Abraham huffed in annoyance. "We got bigger fish to fry — like saving the damn world."

"Oh, come on you ginger baby," Carmen joked, poking at his cheek from the backseat of the truck. "Just stop the truck, lemme check it out. I think they need help."

Eugene was beside her, fast asleep.

Abraham looked to Rosita with a 'is she serious right now?' look as Rosita only shrugged in response. The eldest Espinosa knew better than to argue with her sister, she was too stubborn to take no for an answer unfortunately. The man huffed in annoyance again as he put his foot down on the break, bringing the car to a halt.

Carmen smiled victoriously. Abraham looked back at her, "you got five minutes or I'm driving off without ya."

"Yes boss." Carmen responded cheekily, giving Abraham a mock salute just to add to his current annoyance. The brunette hopped out the truck, her black, worn-out combat boots hitting the dusted floor with a small thud. Rosita got out with her, not wanting to let her fourteen year old sister go wandering into a possible threat.

Carmen removed her gun from her holster. She walked around the truck, spotting a woman a few metres away. She was waving her hands around, shouting 'help!' The brunette looked back to her sister, who had clearly seen the same thing and they both jogged toward the woman, guns in hand.

"Help!" The woman yelled again as the two girls reached her. Carmen raised her gun, taking slow steps toward her in caution. The woman raised her hands in surrender, proving she wasn't a threat. "You have to help," she said with a concerned tone. "My friend, he's...he's collapsed and we have nothing."

Carmen and Rosita held their guns firmly at the woman, still skeptical. "Where's your friend?" Rosita asked.

"He's, um..." the woman stumbled over her words frantically, pointing to her left. "He's over there, I can't hold him up myself."

Rosita looked to Carmen. "I'll go check it out. Stay here."

The younger Espinosa nodded in response, keeping her gun and eyes on the woman in front of her. While Rosita was gone, the woman tried to make small talk.

"I'm Tara," she said.

"Carmen," the brunette answered. "You been out here long?"

"Long enough," Tara responded.

Rosita came back after a moment. She nodded to Carmen as a signal for her sister to lower her gun as she looked to Tara. "Help me lift him."

They both walked over to the man to help the unknown girl carry him back to the vehicle. Carmen walked behind the two, for protection and to be ready to shoot the girl if she tried something. When they reached the truck Abraham got out.

"What in the name of God's ballsack is this shit?" He yelled. "I said five minutes to check it out, not to bring back two randoms."

"Well, I'm sorry. But they needed help." Carmen explained, opening the back of the truck.

"Well who is this donkey?" He pointed to the man, struggling to be held up by the two girls.

"Just shut the fuck up and help me lift him into the back." Rosita whined at Abraham who huffed like a child. He helped lift the man, dumping him into the back of the truck like a sack of potatoes. Tara climbed in the back with him.

Soon, they were back on the road. And yet again, Carmen's curiosity got the better of her. She motioned to the man in the back, still unconscious. "What's his name?"

"Glenn." Tara responded, a short nod following her answer.

Carmen mirrored her nod and turned back around.

The four and the two new additions, Tara and Glenn had been travelling for a while. Glenn still hadn't woken up.

They had passed a place named Crook (as shown by the sign) and Carmen had been watching in interest as Tara scribbled the names of places onto her hand. The brunette chose to not ask any questions...for now.

They all noticed walkers up ahead, only a few. However, Abraham still stopped the truck and got out, as did Tara.

She cocked her gun at the walkers, ready to fire.

"Do not fire that weapon!" Abraham barked, pointing at the weapon in Tara's hand. He watched as the three walkers limped towards him.

"Shit. Look at what we got here." Abraham said, in an almost taunting tone as he neared the walkers. He took a crowbar from the back of the truck, giving the first two walkers a smack around the head which knocked them to the floor.

"Oh honey, look at you." He cooed as he looked at the final walker, who clearly used to be a woman. "You're a damn mess." He failed the first time, then the second, so on his third try he stuck the crowbar in her face, still failing.

She was a fighter, that was for sure.

The walker still had the crowbar stuck in its face, making that familiar snarling noise. Abraham looked up at Tara, motioning to her gun like he had all the time in the world. "Can I borrow that a sec?"

Tara obeyed and threw it towards him which he smashed the face of the walker with. Abraham tossed the gun back to Tara, who looked disgusted when her hands touched the gun again, the insides of the walker lingering on it.

"What?" Abraham asked Tara.

No response.

"What?" He repeated.

"I've never seen that before." She replied.

"Saying you don't do the same thing?" He furrowed his brows.

"You smiled. You were smiling." Tara told him. She seemed disappointed with Abraham.

"Well I'm...the luckiest guy in the world." Abraham responded sarcastically, making Carmen rolled her eyes at the comment.

No one is lucky in this world.

"Now why don't you two ladies help me with one of these cars? We have some miles to go." Abraham asked Tara and Carmen, who was still in the truck.

Carmen hopped out the truck and followed Abraham. Tara hesitating before she did the same.

After the three sorted out the cars and the truck was running good again, they hit the road.

Carmen was now sat in the back with Tara, Glenn in between them. She looked down at him, his eyes slowly fluttering open. The man looked around in confusion and began to sit up, bringing Tara to his attention.

"Hey. Don't move." Tara said, placing a hand on his chest to bring him to a halt. She reached for their flask with water inside. "Here is some water." She unscrewed the cap, keeping it in her hand.

"Where are we?" Glenn spoke, suddenly regaining consciousness.

"I don't know. We were fighting walkers then you passed out right after we left the prison." Tara explained, screwing the cap back on after Glenn didn't take any. "I thought the truck was safer than the road." Tara said.

Glenn turned to look at Carmen, clearly not recognising her. "Who are you?" He asked, trying to stand up.

"My name is Carmen," she introduced. "Listen, dude, I don't think it's a good idea to be standing up after—"

"Ok. Why are we here, where are we?" His voice became deeper, more strong.

"You're here because you passed out and we helped you." Carmen answered, basically jsut repeating Tara's words. "We passed Crook about an hour or two ago. No signs since."

"You're with these guys. How do you not know exactly where we are?" Glenn asked, his tone suspicious.

"They don't tell me much," Carmen responded. "I mean, come on. I'm a kid, right?"

"Yeah, I..." Glenn's voice trailed off as he looked at Carmen, realising she genuinely was just a kid and he couldn't get angry, not at her at least. His eyes went back to Tara, her was fully stood up now and was facing her. "Did we pass the bus?" He asked.

No response.

"On the road, did we pass the bus?" He repeated.

Tara seemed to have a reputation of not answering first time.

"Yes." She nodded.

"What did you see?" Glenn questioned angrily.

No response again.

"What did you see!" Glenn yelled, Tara jumped slightly.

"They were all dead." Tara answered, her voice quiet like she was scared to admit the truth.

"How long since we passed it?" Glenn asked, his voice not that rage filled anymore.

"About two or three hours ago." Carmen butted in. She had a habit of answering before other people. Whether that was to annoy them or just because she wanted to. She just did it. She was smart for her age, quick-witted too.

At those words, Glenn looked as though he was about to faint again. He began to glance over to the window of the truck. He walked toward it and hit the glass. "Hey! Stop the truck!" He yelled.

A middle finger appeared behind the glass, aiming at Glenn. It was Abraham of course, his usual sass shining through.

He hit the glass again, Tara joining in as they both began to yell. "Hey! Stop the truck!" She screamed, her voice higher than Glenn's.

Glenn grabbed his gun, looking at Carmen before doing so with slight annoyance. He didn't like the way she just sat with her arms folded, waiting to see what would happen. Carmen knew  that eventually Abraham would stop the truck, but not without getting his own word in.

"Hey! Stop the truck!"

"Stop! The! Truck!"

The glass broke, a crack piercing through. Glenn dropped to his knees in slight exhaustion as he felt the truck beginning to stop.

When the trucks wheels stopped rolling, Glenn and Tara got out the back. Glenn grabbed his things and began to walk.

Carmen shuffled to the end of the truck, her legs dangling off the edge as she watched in anticipation.

Abraham got out the truck, slamming the door with sudden force before marching toward Glenn. "Where the hell are you going?" When Glenn didn't give an answer, he turned to Tara. "Where the hells he going?" Abraham's voice grew louder.

Tara ignored him.

"I don't know what your lady friend has told you about the special nature of the mission we're on but this shit is time-sensitive and we're already way behind schedule. So I need you to turn your ass around and get back in the truck." Abraham yelled as he slowly trailed behind Glenn, eventually catching up to him.

There was a moment of silence before Glenn spoke. "I gotta go." Glenn tried to walk past Abraham.

Abraham stopped him and began to rant again. "It seems like neither one of you's been paying close enough attention to the hell on earth we've been living in." He paused. "So let me tell you how to best avoid winding up just another dead-alive prick. You find some strong, like-minded comrades and you stay stuck together like wet on water. We need people. The more the better. We need each other, partner. Even with all that gear on your shoulder, you won't last a night. Not by yourself."

"I'll take my chances." Glenn replied firmly.

"I'm gonna have to insist that you hold the hell up. Alright, believe it or not, the fate of the entire damn human race might depend on it." Abraham yelled, full well knowing was right. Eugene was the only solution.

"What the hell are you talking about?" Glenn asked Abraham before looking at Tara, "Who is this guy?"

Tara just shrugged.

"I'm Sergeant Abraham Ford. And these are my companions, Rosita Espinosa, Carmen Espinosa and Dr Eugene Porter." Abraham explained, pointing to each of them as he introduced them. Carmen gave a little wave to Glenn as Abraham
continued. "We're on a mission to get Eugene to Washington, DC. Eugene's a scientist and he knows exactly what caused this mess."

Eugene was very smart. And Carmen had listened to things he said, taking mental notes. She has always been interested in science, so Eugene was her source.

"Alright. So what happened?" Glenn asked as he turned around to face Eugene and Rosita who had no gotten out of the truck.

"It's classified." Eugene replied, the same answer he'd given to everybody when they asked.

"He'd been talking to the muckety-mucks in Washington on his satellite phone. The past couple weeks, nobody's been picking up on the other end." Abraham added.

"Why'd you get in the truck with these guys?" Glenn questioned Tara.

"I had to get us off the road." She said. "You were passed out, we were out of bullets. I know how to get back to that bus. I wrote down every turn. I will get you back if I can, okay?" Tara seemed very eager to prove something, like she owed Glenn.

"That's where she'd go to find me." Glenn responded, almost talking to himself. "That's where I am gonna go."

"It's a waste of time." Abraham interrupted. "Tara told us what went down. There is zero chance you will ever find your wife again. Alive or dead. Mainly because, sorry to tell you, she's gone. No need for you to die, too. Now come on. Get back in the truck. Do something with your life."

Glenn dropped the bags from his shoulder, whether it was in defeat or preparation to fight Abraham, Carmen wasn't so sure.

"When the people we love kick... well, they disappear. Doesn't mean you've got to go out that way, too." Abraham added.

Glenn took a moment to process what was happening, what Abraham was saying before he punched Abraham in the face, knocking him to the floor.

"She's alive. And I'm gonna find her." Glenn responded, picking up his pack and beginning to walk.

He didn't get very far.

"You son of a bitch!" Abraham sprinted after Glenn. He grabbed at him and tackled him to the ground.

As Tara and Rosita tried to pull the hot-headed redhead off of the smaller man, Carmen continued to watch the scene in slight amusement.

Carmen turned to see Eugene stood watching. Eugene couldn't really do anything — he couldn't use a gun properly so he just let the three do it for them, he only had his brain, really.

Abraham shoved Tara and Rosita off of him before Rosita yelled. "You don't want this, Abraham!"

"Let me go." Glenn struggled, trying to shuffle out of the grip of the former-military soldier. Abraham had his hands wrapped around Glenn's neck.

"Don't just sit there, help us!" Rosita yelled at her younger sister, who zoned back in and ran over.

"Come on!" Carmen tried grabbing onto Abraham's arm, tugging him back.
