For the Summer Games, athletes representing Uruguay first competed at the Games of the VIII Olympiad Paris 1924, taking part there in the sports of boxing, fencing and football. At the Games of the VIII Olympiad Paris 1924, athletes representing Uruguay won a first Olympic medal of any colour, capturing gold in the men’s football event. For the Winter Games, the first athlete to represent Uruguay competed at the XVIII Olympic Winter Games Nagano 1998, taking part in the discipline of alpine skiing. No athlete representing Uruguay has yet won an Olympic Winter Games medal of any colour.
Uruguay did not take part in the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games. The NOC's last Winter Games appearance was at Nagano 1998.
