For the Summer Games, athletes representing Pakistan first competed at the Games of the XIV Olympiad London 1948, participating there in the sports or disciplines of athletics, boxing, road cycling, track cycling, hockey, swimming and weightlifting. At the Games of the XVI Olympiad Melbourne 1956, athletes representing Pakistan won a first Olympic medal of any colour, capturing silver in the men’s hockey event. At the Games of the XVII Olympiad Rome 1960, athletes representing Pakistan won a first Olympic gold medal, competing in the men’s hockey event. For the Winter Games, one athlete representing Pakistan first competed at the XXI Olympic Winter Games Vancouver 2010, taking part in the discipline of alpine skiing. No athlete representing Pakistan has yet won an Olympic Winter Games medal of any colour.

At Beijing 2022, Pakistan was represented by Alpine skier Muhammad Karim, who contested one event, the men's slalom, but did not finish. Karim previously took part in Sochi 2014 and PyeongChang 2018, with a best finish of 71st in giant slalom in Sochi. Karim was the first, and to date the only, athlete to represent Pakistan at more than one edition of the Winter Games.
