For the Summer Games, athletes representing Ecuador first competed at the Games of the VIII Olympiad Paris 1924, taking part in the sport of athletics. At the Games of the XXVI Olympiad Atlanta 1996, Jefferson Perez became the first athlete representing Ecuador to win an Olympic medal of any colour, capturing gold in the men’s athletics 20km race walk event. For the Winter Games, one athlete representing Ecuador first competed at the XXIII Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018, taking part in the discipline of cross-country skiing. No athlete representing Ecuador has yet won an Olympic Winter Games medal of any colour.
