For the Summer Games, athletes representing Saudi Arabia first competed at the Games of the XX Olympiad Munich 1972, taking part there in the sport of athletics. At the Games of the XXVII Olympiad Sydney 2000, Hadi Soua’an Al-Somaily became the first athlete representing Saudi Arabia to win an Olympic medal of any colour, capturing silver in the men’s athletics 400m hurdles event. For the Winter Games, one athlete representing Saudi Arabia first competed at the XXIV Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022, taking part there in the discipline of alpine skiing. No athlete representing Saudi Arabia has yet won an Olympic Winter Games medal of any colour.

At Beijing 2022, the NOC was represented by Alpine skier Fayik Abdi, who finished 44th in the men's giant slalom event.
