For the Summer Games, athletes representing Chile first competed at the Games of the V Olympiad Stockholm 1912, taking part in the sports or disciplines of athletics, road cycling, equestrian and shooting. At the Games of the IX Olympiad Amsterdam 1928, Manuel Plaza became the first athlete representing Chile to win an Olympic medal of any colour, capturing silver in the men’s athletics marathon event. At the Games of the XXVIII Olympiad Athens 2004, Fernando Gonzalez and Nicolas Massu became the first athletes representing Chile to win an Olympic gold medal, competing in the men’s tennis doubles event. For the Winter Games, athletes representing Chile first competed at the V Olympic Winter Games St. Moritz 1948, taking part in the discipline of alpine skiing. No athlete representing Chile has yet won an Olympic Winter Games medal of any colour.
The NOC sent four athletes to Beijing 2022 - Alpine skiers Henrik Von Appen and Emilia Aramburo, freestyle skier Dominique Ohaco and cross-country skier Yonathan Jesus Fernandez. Von Appen achieved the best result for the NOC in Beijing, ending the men's super-G in 27th place. Ohaco, Von Appen and Fernandez were all competing at their third Games in 2022, while Aramburo made her Olympic debut in Beijing at age 19.
