For the Summer Games, athletes representing Mexico first competed at the Games of the VIII Olympiad Paris 1924, taking part in the sports of athletics, tennis and shooting. At the Games of the X Olympiad Los Angeles 1932, Gustavo Huet became the first athlete representing Mexico to win an Olympic medal of any colour, capturing silver in the men’ shooting small-bore rifle 50 metres prone event. At the Games of the XIV Olympiad London 1948, athletes representing Mexico became the first to win Olympic gold medals, competing in the equestrian jumping event in which the team and individual results were both determined at the same time. For the Winter Games, athletes representing Mexico first competed at the II Olympic Winter Games St. Moritz 1928, taking part in the discipline of bobsleigh. No athlete representing Mexico has yet won an Olympic Winter Games medal of any colour.
At Beijing 2022, Mexico was represented by four athletes. In Alpine skiing, Rodolfo Roberto Dickson Sommers took part in the men's giant slalom event, finishing 35th, while Sarah Schleper contested the women's super-G and giant slalom events, posting a best finish of 35th in super-G. Both Schleper and Dickson competed at PyeongChang 2018, with Schleper's appearance in Beijing making her the first female athlete to represent Mexico in Alpine skiing at more than one edition of the Winter Games. Also in Beijing, Mexico took part in figure skating for the first time since Albertville 1992 as Donovan Carrillo finished 22nd in men's single skating, while cross-country skier Jonathan Soto Moreno ranked 94th in the men's 15km classic.
