For the Summer Games, athletes representing Greece first competed at the Games of the I Olympiad Athens 1896, taking part there in the sports or disciplines of artistic gymnastics, athletics, road cycling, track cycling, fencing, shooting, swimming, tennis, weightlifting and wrestling. At the Games of the I Olympiad Athens 1896, Ioannis Persakis became the first athlete representing Greece to win an Olympic medal of any colour, capturing bronze in the men’s athletics triple jump. At the same edition of the Games, Leon Pyrgos became the first athlete representing Greece to win an Olympic gold medal, competing in the men’s fencing foil masters event. For the Winter Games, one athlete representing Greece first competed at the IV Olympic Winter Games Garmisch-Partenkirchen 1936, taking part in both the disciplines of alpine skiing and cross country skiing. No athlete representing Greece has no yet to win an Olympic Winter Games medal of any colour.

At the 2022 Games in Beijing, Greece was represented by five athletes who took part in Alpine skiing and cross-country skiing. The NOC's highest result in Beijing was equal 23rd in the cross-country women's team sprint classic, where Greece was eliminated along with several other NOCs after being lapped. The result was achieved by Maria Ntanou at her third Games alongside 18-year-old Olympic debutant Nefeli Tita. Greece's best individual result in Beijing was Alpine skier Ioannis Antoniou, who finished the men's slalom in 29th position.
