[edit]Cognate with Chinese 狗 (OC *koːʔ). Possibly related to Proto-Austronesian *(u-)(ŋ)kuɣkuɣ (“dog”). Old Chinese borrowed 狗 from a language that was ancestral to Hmong-Mien (Norman, 1988; Benedict, 1996).
