A Third Term for Donald Trump

Author: Greg Valliere

October 28, 2025

Go to a party in Washington and it’s virtually certain that someone will raise the issue of Donald Trump running for a third term.

The Constitution doesn’t allow more than two four terms, of course, but no one in this town is willing to definitely rule him out.

The latest round of rumors cropped up earlier this month, when Trump said he would like to run again.  That incited rumors backed by the conservative activist Steve Bannon, who said Trump “has a plan”’ to run again.

Other Trump supporters believe they have the votes to amend the constitution. There’s a scheme to have Trump run for vice president, win, and then succeed himself as president.

These and other plans have modest support, but not, in our opinion, enough for Trump to win a third term.

There’s another complication— Trump’s health has become a bit of a puzzle. He traveled to the Walter Reed Medical Center last week, his second visit there this year.

Trump concedes that he has a circulatory issue in his hands, but some insiders wonder if there’s anything else to be concerned about.

At 79 years old, facing three more years as president, Trump has tremendous energy, an adoring base, and plenty of money.  Could he run again? Very unlikely but not totally out of the question.
