The Observatory (HKO) will keep the T3 storm signal in force for much of Tuesday, as Severe Tropical Storm Fengshen passes south of Hong Kong.
Gale force winds may affect high ground, the weather service said, with the T3 signal set to remain until at least 6pm: “Fengshen will move southwestwards gradually and depart from Hong Kong today. When the local weather is dominated by the northeast monsoon, the Observatory will consider issuing the Strong Monsoon Signal to replace the Strong Wind Signal, No. 3,” the HKO said.
Classes of kindergartens and some special schools are suspended for Tuesday.

The vicinity of the Pearl River Estuary and the coast of Guangdong will be affected by the storm’s outer rainbands, bringing cooler weather and rough seas to the region, it added.

High tides are also expected: “[W]ater levels over local coastal areas will be generally 0.5 to 1 metre higher than normal in the next couple of days. Flooding may occur over some low-lying coastal areas during the high tides at night.”

Temperatures will reach lows of 19 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, but the heat will return towards the end of the week.

Highs of 30 degrees Celsius will prevail over the weekend, the HKO says.

Typhoon Signal 3
The No. 3 signal warns of strong winds affecting, or expected to affect, Hong Kong within 12 hours.
- Classes of kindergartens and schools for children with physical or intellectual disabilities will be suspended.
- Scheduled ferry services may be cancelled as conditions worsen. Bus and MTR services are not affected.
- Residents should secure loose objects like flower pots or drying racks, and prepare for possible flooding in low-lying areas.
