The Hong Kong Observatory is considering hoisting the Strong Wind Signal No.3 between noon to 2pm on Monday as Typhoon Sarika is expected to swing northwards, brushing the coast of Vietnam and heading up towards China. Hong Kong’s Standby Signal No. 1 is currently in force.
The No. 3 signal is issued when strong wind is blowing, or expected, with speeds of 41-62 kilometres per hour.
Windy weather is expected to persist and gusts may exceed 110 kilometres per hour.
According to the observatory’s latest bulletin, the typhoon is currently 580 kilometres south of Hong Kong and is expected to move across the South China Sea at a speed of 20 kilometres per hour west-northwest. It is predicted to intensify gradually, with local winds strengthening progressively.
Aside from Sarika, another severe typhoon, Haima, is expected to hit Hong Kong in the coming days. It is likely to make landfall northeast of Hong Kong near Shanwei in Guangdong province on Friday1. By that time, it is expected to be downgraded into a typhoon.
Hong Kong will see a rain throughout the week.
The humidity is also expected to remain between a low of 65 to 85 per cent, and a high of 90 to 95 per cent.
