Police have arrested a couple in Tuen Mun after doctors found crystal meth in their 2-year-old daughter’s urine on Wednesday.
The father, 43, and mother, 37 were held on suspicion of child neglect or abuse, a police spokesperson told HKFP.
The couple claimed they were not drug users, according to a report by local newspaper The Sun.
Doctors at the Tuen Mun Hospital conducted urine and blood tests for the couple’s two daughters, aged 1 and 2, last week after the mother took them to the hospital and asked for help in looking after them, the report said. The woman is said to have told the hospital that she was too poor to raise the kids.
The children stayed at the hospital for three days until the mother suddenly took them back and “ran away” last Thursday, according to The Sun.
Doctors alerted police after they found traces of crystal meth, also known as “ice,” in the 2-year-old’s urine, police said. The two are now under the care of social workers.
