Why did Mazda give the Mk1 Eunos the V-Spec nose cone badge and what does it actually represent?
I only ask cos a couple of kids from over the road didn't know what make of car my Eunos is and they asked me what the V badge is for, and I was like 'err - very special!?!'
Is is V spec or V special? What does it represent?

According to Bob Hall, the similarities are entirely coincidental.

The logo is nothing to do with "V-Spec" (a common trim level used in Japan on many cars, a bit like "GL" or "CD"). The logo was used on all Eunos models. which were sold alongside Citroen AXs and BX (and ZX). According to Hall, who was well placed at the time inside Mazda, the logo doesn't mean anything, and Mazda were just being lazy.

The affiliation was that they shared garages to be sold in Japan. Eunos was a 'luxury' brand for Mazda, a bit like Lexus is with Toyota.

Interestingly the Citroen badge has always had those 'V's for a very special reason. Andre Citroen started off by making gears, in fact he patented the double helicoil gear design (which looks like a 'V') which was so strong and quiet it was used on the Titanic! The big ship is lying at the bottom of the ocean with Citroen double helicoil gears as I speak.

Citroen's Light 15 Traction Avant was light years ahead of it's time, first Radial tyres, first monocoque mass produced, first FWD mass produced, first car with brake lights as standard etc. etc.

And that lovely double helicoil gear grille:

So is there some sort of affiliation with Citroën here then? Why the Eunos badge next to the Citroën logo on the docs posted?
Citroens were sold through Eunos showrooms in Japan.

Mazda's brand outlets, Autozam, Eunos, Autorama and Efini, sold a bizarre selection of other peoples cars
