A reminder of how the breed started, and some foundation cattle. In what is now the Aberdeenshire and Angusshire counties there were 8 strains of cattle: Puny (Highland) Buchan humlie; Lowland Buchan humlie; Aberdeen horned; small Banffshire cattle, Forfarshire horned, Angus doddies, Mearns cattle of Kincardineshire, and hearty Kyloes in the Highlands. There was also Fife breed influence from the county just south of Angusshire.

Foundation, yes. But the American association has always emphasized black, reducing white with the goal of eliminating it (red as well).
